Ekijou-ka Genshou (a Touhou LW original) refers to loosely packed areas of earth that behave like a liquid when exposed to strong vibrations from earthquakes and other sources. This is an apt temperament for Chiyari, who is a despised bloodsucking youkai living as a shut-in in the Hell of Blood Pools. She's endowed with Star Essence, the temperament of the abandoned Former Hell, and Earth Phase, the temperament of the Underworld. The diverse and uncooperative Star Essence resists the cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence, but it is weak to the charming and arrogant Sun Essence. The encompassing and regenerative Earth Phase resists Fire Phase, because fire produces earth, but it is weak to Wood Phase, because wood parts earth.
The ability of Chiyari Tenkajin, the tenkajin. Unlike Biten and Enoko, Chiyari has long been a youkai and has many Underworld youkai acquaintances. She is also an old friend of Zanmu's, making her position unique among the three spies. It's rumored that tenkajin youkai are similar to the onibi youkai that mujina transform into. However, one look at Chiyari is enough to see that if she ever resembled an onibi youkai, she doesn't now, and that the rumors are, in fact, just rumors. No matter how much you squint, it's clear she looks nothing like a mujina or onibi. If anything, she looks more like some species of reptile. It's understandable that some people mistake her for a chupacabra, but who knows, maybe she's some kind of alien. Blood and fire are both red, but that's not their only connection. Blood contains the heat necessary for life, making them intrinsically linked. (Crude oil is also linked to them in this way.) This connection is the reason the Scarlet Devil Mansion vampires can manipulate fire. Tsurube-otoshi have a strong connection to onibi, and are often thought of as kaika (mysterious fires that appear without cause) that fall from the trees on rainy days. The principle that water nourishes wood and wood feeds fire implies fire is created from liquid, which is a standard onibi belief. It seems Chiyari has lived in the Underworld and known Rin Kaenbyou, Utsuho Reiuji, and Nazrin for many years. She's also likely familiar with the other residents of Former Hell, like those who live in the Palace of the Earth Spirits, as well as Myouren Temple members who used to live there. Based on the fact this is the first time she's ventured up to Gensokyo, she must really love her life at the Blood of Hell Pools.
The Spread Shot of Chiyari Tenkajin (a Touhou LW original). She sucks corrupted blood in this attack. The Former Hell of Blood Pools lies in the abandoned Former Hell. It was once sent into an uproar by the arrival of Yuuma Toutetsu, who had come to live there. It seems at that point, Chiyari was already living there. That means she must've been present during the event where oil sprung up to the surface.
The Focus Shot of Chiyari Tenkajin (a Touhou LW original). She attacks with despised tenka (a kind of will-o'-the-wisp or onibi). Originally, Chiyari lived in Hell and survived off of the blood pools. This means that, unlike the youkai who were forcibly sent to the Underworld, she was either born there (which may also be true for the Hell raven and kasha) or moved there voluntarily. It seems that during her time living by the blood pools, she's lost all interest in the surface world, so perhaps it's the latter that's true.
A Spell Card of Chiyari Tenkajin. This attack resembles that of a cursed bloodsucking youkai. Chiyari only ever met Yuuma because of Zanmu Nippaku. Chiyari and Zanmu have long been friends, and it's likely they've known each other since at least the time when Former Hell was separated from Hell. Of the three spies, it's fair to say Chiyari's ties to Zanmu are the strongest.
A Spell Card of Chiyari Tenkajin (a Touhou LW original). This attack resembles an inferno of cursed blood. It seems Chiyari has little interest in involving herself with the world's uproars and disturbances. That was true during the incident where hordes of phantoms were released on the surface and was likely true when Former Hell was separated from Hell. Drinking from blood pools is all the fun she needs. She and Yuuma are alike in the way they prefer to observe situations without interfering. Perhaps that's why they get along.
The Last Word of Chiyari Tenkajin (a Touhou LW original). She recalls her territory in this attack. Former Hell is a land that was discarded, and the one who discarded it was the human oni, Zanmu. It's strange to think that there's a connection between her and Chiyari, who remained in the (now Former) Hell of Blood Pools. But Chiyari knew full well that resentment was the defining trait of all youkai. Without resentment, they can't survive. Without resentment, there'd be no meaning for their existence. Zanmu discarded Former Hell without hesitation, which filled the empty hearts of the youkai denizens with resentment. In a way, what Zanmu did was an act of heroism, providing salvation to the Former Hell youkai, who had found a new enemy to resent. For Chiyari, this meant she not only had her leisurely lifestyle with Yuuma to enjoy but also her delectable new resentment for Zanmu.
Humans love chupacabra. Did you know there's one named Tupai living in the Scarlet Devil Mansion?
It's theorized that mujina transform to become tenkajin. Mujina are supposed to be tanuki, right? ...Or was it badgers?
Chiyari and Yuuma get along surprisingly well. They seem like genuine friends as opposed to master and servant or mere coworkers.
