Temperament: Kiri

Kiri (a Touhou LW original) refers to mist, a phenomenon caused by countless droplets of water suspended in the air. This is an apt temperament for Remilia, the vampire who covered Gensokyo in mist. In this world, Patchouli used her magic to extract Remilia's many attributes to counteract her weaknesses. The defining attribute of vampires is blood, formed by the elemental combination of Fire Phase (body heat) and Water Phase (liquid). And mist is made from a combination of Wood Phase (suspension in the air) and Water Phase (water droplets). The strong and kind Wood Phase resists Water Phase, because water nourishes wood, but it is weak to Metal Phase, because metal carves wood. The formless and passionate Fire Phase resists Wood Phase, because wood feeds fire, but it is weak to Water Phase, because water dampens fire. The flexible and patient Water Phase resists Metal Phase, because metal collects water, but it is weak to Earth Phase, because earth directs water. The combination of Wood Phase and Fire Phase cancels out any resistance or weakness to Water Phase. And the combination of Wood Phase and Water Phase cancels out any resistance or weakness to Metal Phase. Remilia is also endowed with Moon Essence since she is the perfect vampire. The cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence resists the alluring and arrogant Sun Essence, but it is weak to the diverse and uncooperative Star Essence.

Ability: Capable of manipulating fate

The ability of Remilia Scarlet from the world shrouded in scarlet mist (a Touhou LW original). It is essentially the same as our version of Remilia's ability. In our world, Remilia was the one who caused the Scarlet Mist Incident, so shouldn't this Remilia be the same...? There are mysteries and secrets concerning every ability that deals with fate, not just Remilia's. That's why it is not unusual for there to be no detailed information about the conditions that must be met or costs that must be paid for Remilia to use her ability. In fact, you would need to possess a very specific ability to even tell if fate had been altered, so worrying about the details is rather pointless. Remilia is also said to possess several other abilities due to her nature as a vampire, a powerful youkai of the West. One of these is the magic that lets her produce mist. How or why she can do this is a mystery, but she can expel white mist from her fingertips. The mist looks like great white wings as it extends from her fingers. This is quite a useful ability for a vampire as mist can block sunlight, covering for one of their weaknesses. However, Remilia has typically used a parasol for this purpose since the incident was resolved. Perhaps some specific conditions have to be met for her to create mist, or maybe it uses up a lot of magical power. Besides, during that incident, the mist that covered Gensokyo wasn't white... It was scarlet. The one who provided magical assistance and imbued the mist with scarlet magic must have been Remilia's best friend, Patchouli Knowledge, who is a highly capable magician. However, it seems that neither of them intended for the mist produced by their combined magic to cover Gensokyo for so long or seep into other worlds. Remilia, who boasts of being a master of fate, probably liked to claim it was on purpose, whereas, Patchouli, who takes pride in her power as a magician, must have enjoyed how it boosted her reputation. But they gradually started to panic as they continued to observe the movements of the magic mist that had long since escaped their control. Usually, the prolonging of an incident is prevented by the humans who set out to resolve it. But that didn't happen in this world, so those who were not openly involved with this incident had no choice but to reveal themselves and take the stage.

Attacks

Scarlet Yomi

The Spread Shot of Remilia Scarlet from the world shrouded in scarlet mist (a Touhou LW original). She paints the Netherworld scarlet. The Japanese word for coming back to life, "yomigaeru," comes from Yomi, the land of the dead, and the word for return, "kaeru." Unfortunately, nobody celebrated when the dead unexpectedly came back to life in the past. It meant more mouths to feed, not to mention the problems with inheritance. Apparently, that's why it became a tradition to leave heavy stones on top of graves―to keep the "dead" down there. Incidentally, the techniques used to determine whether someone was dead weren't that accurate in the past, so it wasn't uncommon for people to get mistakenly buried alive.

Scarlet Fantasy Newcomer

The Focus Shot of Remilia Scarlet from the world shrouded in scarlet mist (a Touhou LW original). She paints Gensokyo scarlet. Things that are forgotten, lost, or no longer needed in the outside world end up in Gensokyo. The incident-causing vampires also came to Gensokyo because they weren't needed in the outside world. However, this doesn't mean they were accepted unconditionally. Perhaps they caused incidents as a kind of courtesy to become friends with everyone.

Nether Sign: Scarlet Netherworld

A Spell Card of Remilia Scarlet from the world shrouded in scarlet mist. She paints the Netherworld scarlet. It's not known whether this applies to the Scarlet sisters or not, but vampires are generally considered to be a type of undying youkai, called undead. Undead are basically former humans who have died yet linger in the world of the living. The Yama would usually send shinigami to deal with such beings as soon as they can, but what do they think of vampires?

Scarlet Gensokyo

A Spell Card of Remilia Scarlet from the world shrouded in scarlet mist. She paints Gensokyo scarlet. The details of how the Scarlet Devil Mansion came to Gensokyo are shrouded in mystery, but perhaps some clues could be found by investigating the sage's experimental Youkai Expansion Project that began long ago and the historic event known as the Vampire Incident. Uncovering the truth won't be easy, however, as there are conflicting interpretations of these events as well.

Much-More-Scarlet Destiny

The Last Word of Remilia Scarlet from the world shrouded in scarlet mist (a Touhou LW original). She attacks with bullets dyed with an intense scarlet fate. Did you think this was the usual Scarlet Destiny? No, this destiny is infinitely more scarlet. Remilia didn't create her Last Word during this incident in our world, but that fate was altered due to the prolonging of the incident. Why has this world's mist become so much more dense, scarlet, and enduring than planned? Perhaps it's about time Remilia investigated personally.
