Character Information

Temperament: Koujitsu

Koujitsu (a Touhou LW original) refers to peaceful and pleasant days. This is an apt temperament for Reimu, a shrine maiden who enjoys festivals. Her singing voice is pure and unrestrained (Wood Phase) as well as being natural and unrefined (Sun Essence). The strong and kind Wood Phase resists Water Phase, because water nourishes wood, but it is weak to Metal Phase, because metal carves wood. The alluring and arrogant Sun Essence resists the diverse and uncooperative Star Essence, but it is weak to the cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence.

Ability/Backstory: Capable of flight (Festival)

The ability of Reimu Hakurei from the world of music festivals (a Touhou LW original). It's basically the same as the abilities belonging to most other Reimus. After observing and learning from multiple failed attempts to prevent the Lost Word Incident from spreading, the denizens of this Reimu's world have decided to try and resolve it by holding music festivals. This Reimu's upbringing was the same as our world's Reimu. The main difference between this world and other worlds is that here, battles of bullets are determined by whose musical power is stronger. That said, simply screaming down the mic at the top of your lungs isn't enough to win. A good battler's music is beautiful, moving, and catchy. In other words, whoever's music captures the most hearts wins. The Hakurei shrine maidens are always skilled in many fields. Their job includes reciting prayers, performing their own unique kagura (traditional Shinto singing and dancing), performing daily Shinto rituals, and exterminating youkai. The position of shrine maiden has been passed down the generations of the Hakurei clan. The current shrine maiden, Reimu, began to demonstrate her talents as a young girl well before she performed her first official duties as shrine maiden. Her singing and dancing were, in a word, adorable. The old folk in the village took a particular liking to her and endlessly spoiled her. In truth, a talent like her only comes along every thousand years or so (which would make her the first or second in Gensokyo's history). So what happened? For some reason, Reimu grew up without inheriting a single one of the techniques or skills passed down the many generations of Hakurei shrine maidens. Sure, she got stronger as she grew, but she couldn't shake the feeling something wasn't right. Whenever the magatama god, the mountain hermit, or the suspicious youkai lady visited Reimu, they always seemed like they wanted to tell her something... and eventually, Reimu realized what. (The komainu and the fairies from behind the shrine and under the floors were also keen to find out.) It seemed Reimu wasn't the only one with talent and power. "Marisa... Kirisame!" At first, they kept bumping into each other as rivals, but they've now known each other longer than anyone and can't seem to get rid of one another. They don't think the other weak, but with how close they've become, they no longer act like rivals. But now, in an ironic twist, Reimu's impeccable taste in music has made her realize something about Marisa. "Her singing's good. She looks cool up on stage. She's... adorable." For the first time in her life, Reimu thought to herself, "I have to win."

Attacks

Confetti Surprise

The Spread Shot of Reimu Hakurei from the world of music festivals (a Touhou LW original). She scatters confetti in this attack. Confetti is typically made of small pieces of colorful paper, and Reimu loves the stuff on account of it "making everything feel like a celebration." Perhaps the Youkai Sage likes it too.

Yin-Yang Mirror Ball

The Focus Shot of Reimu Hakurei from the world of music festivals (a Touhou LW original). She throws a mirror ball in this attack. It's surprising, but it seems Reimu's Yin-Yang Orbs have a mirror-ball mode. It's easier to make intricate light patterns with moving mirror balls. Come to think of it, maybe it was the magatama god who installed this mode...

Mirror Sign: Cascading Yin-Yang Mirror Balls

A Spell Card of Reimu Hakurei from the world of music festivals (a Touhou LW original). She fires out mirror balls in this attack. Reimu heard that Marisa was planning to use lights in her performance, so she decided to try and at least match her level. If she could do that, it would all come down to whoever was more powerful. According to Misumaru Tamatsukuri, one reason for the magatamas' creation lay in people's desire to adorn themselves with objects that sparkle like the Moon, which means that reflected light is an integral part of the Yin-Yang Orbs.

Prayer: Recital Barrier

A Spell Card of Reimu Hakurei from the world of music festivals (a Touhou LW original). She scatters confetti in this attack. By writing prayers on each individual piece of confetti, Reimu is able to make this attack lucky as well as powerful. She uses the light-dispersing effect of this attack to counter Marisa's light performance. However, this gives their two attacks great synergy, making them an incredible combination. Yukari Yakumo watched on from backstage with a grin as Reimu and Marisa gave it their all.

Mysterious Flying Kagura Performer

The Last Word of Reimu Hakurei from the world of music festivals (a Touhou LW original). She brings the concert to a triumphant finish. Reimu Hakurei had noticed the existence of a power that only Marisa Kirisame could possess. This, in turn, brought her attention to the existence of a power that only she herself could possess―the power of flight. Reimu was unrestricted by gravity, free from all boundaries... and her singing voice was wholly unbound. It had nothing to do with good or bad, skillful or unskillful. Her voice was purely her own, and she wanted the world to hear it. Indeed, that was precisely what she thought the moment Marisa's voice touched her soul.
