21st Hakurei Shrine Reitaisai

Story
Fireworks light up the night sky. The drums of the traditional festival music echo around a shrine full of rows upon rows of stalls. People from all walks of life, be they humans or youkai, are here to have a good time, and amidst the bustling crowd are two girls whose eyes are positively shining with excitement. It's finally time for this year's Hakurei Shrine Reitaisai!

Reimu and Marisa seem to be enjoying the food they bought at the stalls. Marisa took a big bite of her bright red candied apple and was rewarded with an explosion of flavor as the sweet candy coating and the sour fruit juice mixed together. Beside her, Reimu's cotton candy was just as soft and fluffy as it looked. As soon as she took a bite, the cloud melted on her tongue, filling her mouth with sweet, sugary goodness. "Yours looks good, too. Gimme a bite." "Hey, cut that out. You've already got a candied apple." "...This just occurred to me, but is it OK for you to be hanging out with me like this? You're the host." "I went through all the effort of putting this on, so you better believe I'm gonna enjoy it." "Good point." Reimu may be the host of the Reitaisai, but she loves enjoying festivals just as much, if not more, than anyone.

Three girls―a sarugami, a yamainu, and a tenkajin―were perched on top of a nearby lamprey stall. They stared intently down at Reimu and Marisa, but they showed no signs of interfering with their fun. "...What a coincidence. I didn't expect to see you guys. Are you here to enjoy the festival?" "No, I'm here under Lady Yachie's orders. She wants me to gather intel." "Same, except I'm working for Lady Saki. Us fighting here will only cause trouble, so let's call a temporary truce." The sarugami agreed to the yamainu's suggestion, but her eyes remained fixed on Reimu and Marisa. The yamainu also seemed restless as her gaze shifted from stall to stall. "Heh, you two seem even more interested in the festival than me." Fortunately, it seems they weren't going to cause any trouble tonight.

Looking up, I saw that Miss Yukari had also come to the Reitaisai. But what is she doing all the way up there? At first, I wondered why she wasn't down here enjoying the festival with everyone else, but seeing as she's one of the sages who protect Gensokyo, she's probably keeping an eye out for potential troublemakers. Then again, that probably isn't the only reason. I know how she truly feels. The eyes speak louder than words, especially for Miss Yukari, who usually hides her mouth behind a fan. I might be the only one here who noticed the pure joy shining in her eyes.

Sitting here, looking on, it's like I've found a happy snapshot amongst all the hustle and bustle. The Reitaisai brought a massive crowd to the shrine, and everyone was eager to enjoy everything this night has to offer. The magician and shrine maiden are now competing against each other at ring toss. And the three subordinates may have hidden their intentions, but they can't hide their excitement. Boom. Gensokyo lit up again as another firework burst into a flower of light high up in the sky. The Reitaisai had only just begun― "Teehee, are you trying to hide?" "...So you noticed me, huh?" "Of course. I saw you looking at me a while ago. Did you really think I wouldn't? You should be out there enjoying the festival with everyone else, or it'll be over before you know it."
