Sannyo Komakusa is a yamajorou who lives high up on the Youkai Mountain. She's well-liked and is often referred to as Komakusa-dayuu. She has the ability to control people's minds with tobacco smoke, which she uses to keep the peace among those who visit her gambling den. Yamajorou is another name for yamanba. While most yamanba tend to avoid contact with others, Sannyo has an active social life, often spending time with other youkai on the mountain.
This story is from the time of the Ability Card Incident. Sannyo operates a gambling den on the Youkai Mountain, providing entertainment to all her patrons. So naturally, she took a keen interest in Ability Cards, just as many others did. She believed the intriguing cards, that had suddenly appeared all over the mountain, would surely interest and excite visitors to her den.
There was never any trouble in her gambling den. Whenever an impassioned gambler looked to be getting carried away, she would simply use tobacco smoke to calm them down.
The False Heaven Shelf is a flat stretch of land high up on the Youkai Mountain, and the air there is supposedly extremely crisp and clear. More likely than not, Sannyo lives somewhere near this shelf. Reimu and the others once went there as part of their quest to resolve an incident, but in general, since it's so high up, only people who live on the mountain ever venture there.
Since the Ability Cards disappeared, how have things been for Sannyo's gambling den? In all likelihood, there are just as many youkai visiting as there were before. After all, there aren't many spots to socialize or enjoy some light entertainment on the Youkai Mountain, so there'll always be a place for her gambling den.
Once again today, Sannyo's gambling den is bustling with people. Both Sannyo and her patrons alike are enjoying the unique atmosphere of the den, gambling for themselves, and even watching others gamble.
Since the den's in youkai territory, it's not safe for humans to visit, but there are some who are willing to take the risk. That just goes to show how beloved a place Sannyo's gambling den continues to be.
