Satori Satori are a type of mind-reading youkai. In Gensokyo, the most well-known satori youkai are Satori Komeiji and her little sister, Koishi Komeiji. Satori youkai are also called satori no wapa or satori-douji, and they are often conflated with monkeys and yamabiko, though some believe they are, in fact, avatars of mountain gods.

Youkai of the Underworld The Underworld used to be Hell. Sometime in the past, Hell was relocated to a newly built location because the Underworld was so terribly inefficient. The current denizens of the Underworld include beings that have always lived there, migrants from the surface, those sealed away by humans, and spirits (mostly vengeful spirits) that were trapped down there when the place still functioned as Hell. While satori youkai are one of the most hated species of youkai, their ability makes them excellent managers of the Underworld. Despite the Underworld being supposedly forgotten and shut off from other worlds, there are many passages that connect the Underworld to the surface. However, remarkably few beings have ever escaped up there. This is because the oni, the de-facto wardens of the Underworld, maintain a sense of order by making the Former Capital a fun place to live. Their thinking is that if the youkai and spirits who live in the Underworld never want to leave, they won't have to prevent anyone from leaving by force. The Underworld has developed into a society intent on self-preservation after many years of protecting their freedom, independence, and fun lifestyles from outside influences.

Embryo's Dream It has been theorized that people follow the path of their species' evolution from the moment they are conceived to when they are born. In other words, they relive the history of their species as inscribed in their DNA. Beings of the same species are different reincarnations of a common ancestor, so it stands to reason that they are somehow connected with each other on a subconscious level. History is made and relived in dreams. All that said, this theory is no longer believed by modern-day academics. It has long since been made obsolete. Thus, it became a thing of fantasy.

Collective Unconscious The collective unconscious is often likened to the infrastructure of a city in that it's a vast hidden network that supports human life. However, that analogy can be a bit misleading. The unconscious mind shared by humanity is derived from a mix of biological instincts as well as cultural instincts passed down from generation to generation. In other words, it comes from a mix of genes and memes. Both provide context for hereditary data. An example of the collective unconscious at play can be seen when different people independently reach the same conclusions after reading the same book.
