In Gensokyo, there is a goddess capable of controlling the turning of leaves. When the end of autumn approaches, she paints the leaves on the mountain's deciduous trees red. The view is absolutely stunning, so you should visit if you get the chance.
Apparently, Shizuha paints each and every autumn leaf in Gensokyo by hand. This inevitably means that the painting is sometimes uneven, but that is part of the autumn's charm.
When the end of the season approaches, the autumn leaves fall from the trees. This is also part of Shizuha's job. Apparently, she goes around kicking trees to make the leaves fall. Perhaps she is acting out because she is sad about autumn coming to an end.
Shizuha's younger sister, Minoriko, is the goddess of the autumn harvest. They envy each other, but none of that shows, because the two of them get along so well.
They are completely harmless to other youkai and gods. Hopefully you will give them a thought when you see the mountain dyed red in the autumn.
