Shikigami Data Mining

Story
―Regression analysis verification complete. ―No abnormalities detected. ―Search target: Netherworld-infiltrating souls. ―Data retrieval initiated. Infinite ofuda stretched out as far as the eye could see. The tension was palpable within the confines of the barrier. Amidst it all stood two shikigami, their expressions stern as they focused fully on the task at hand.

Yukari Yakumo had ordered the two shikigami to investigate the discrepancy between evil spirit numbers and their recorded values. In the outside world, shikigami are known as computers. It comes as no surprise then, that they excel at numerical analysis. On this occasion, Chen was leading the investigation, but with her and Ran's computation powers combined, they're capable of using parallel computing to perform precise high-speed calculations.

The pair began calculating their way through vast amounts of data. Using the ofuda before them, they were able to process that data with increased precision. But this investigation was anything but straightforward. They had to work flawlessly. Chen didn't understand the finer details of the complex theories at play, but she knew any mistake would cause trouble for Hakugyokurou. Small beads of sweat began to appear on her forehead. "OK, we just have to keep this up. I have to pull this off. I want to show Lady Ran what I'm capable of," Chen thought to herself. She wanted praise and approval from her master, but a momentary lapse in concentration sent things spiraling out of control.

Small cracks began to appear in the barrier. Chen had to act fast to stop them from spreading. If they didn't, Lady Yuyuko and the others would suffer the consequences. Chen clenched her jaw tight as she tried desperately to stop her hands from shaking. "I can do this. I can do this," she told herself. "It's all right, Chen. Just stay focused." "O-OK!" Thanks to Ran's encouragement, Chen was able to calm down and resume her calculations at full speed. Her hands had stopped shaking, but her jaw was aching rather badly.

After that, Chen and Ran's investigation went smoothly. "I'm sorry, Lady Ran." "What for?" "I wanted to take the lead today, but I ended up needing your help." "That's not true. Sure, there was a bit of a hiccup, but you handled it, didn't you?" Ran patted Chen's head softly and continued, "You did great. And next time, I know you'll do even better." Chen's tails stood up, then began swaying happily from side to side.
