Character Information

Temperament: Sei no Hokkyoku Shindou
Sei no Hokkyoku Shindou (a Touhou LW original) refers to the positive Arctic Oscillation Index. It indicates a state in which the pressure difference between the Arctic and the mid-latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere is large. This is an apt temperament for Mai, who became overly fixated on looking for a successor. She is endowed with abundant vitality (Wood Phase), fearlessness (Star Essence), and the temperament of a ruler behind the scenes (Earth Phase). The strong and kind Wood Phase resists Water Phase, because water nourishes wood, but it is weak to Metal Phase, because metal carves wood. The diverse and uncooperative Star Essence resists the cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence, but it is weak to the alluring and arrogant Sun Essence. The encompassing and regenerative Earth Phase resists Fire Phase, because fire produces earth, but it is weak to Wood Phase, because wood parts earth. The combination of Wood Phase and Earth Phase cancels out any resistance or weakness to Fire Phase.
Ability/Backstory: Capable of drawing out people's vitality by dancing behind them (Prolonged)
The ability of Mai Teireida from the world where the four seasons are in total disarray (a Touhou LW original). There is no noticeable difference between her ability and the abilities of Mais from other worlds. The 16th Prolonged Incident What set it all in motion was the incident caused by Okina Matara, commonly known as the Four Seasons Incident, according to true data. The mastermind was Okina Matara, while the ones who carried it out were her two servants, Mai Teireida and Satono Nishida. Another battle with Okina Matara would later take place in a sequel (extra), making this incident an exceptionally rare case. It should be noted that Okina Matara is one of the sages who were involved in the very creation of Gensokyo. This incident may have fundamentally altered the balance of power in Gensokyo and the nature of the incidents that would later occur. However, the essential truth is always hidden behind the back door. For that reason, everything revealed here is nothing more than false data. Compared to Satono Nishida, Mai Teireida has a bolder personality, and perhaps because of that, she often leaves the Land of the Back Door to look for her own successor. Her actions seem random at first glance, and remain just as random upon closer examination, making them anything but efficient. This is not because Mai takes her duties lightly, but because she finds far greater enjoyment in shooting bullets, dodging them, and watching the show up close. Getting so absorbed in a game that you forget about work is something humans do all the time. Everyone loves having fun. Humans, youkai, animals, fairies, gods... and Mai, who was once human, is no exception. After becoming one of Okina Matara's servants, Mai ceased to be human, and she seems unable to remember her past. That allows her to fully enjoy the present, while also enabling her to exist as an extension of the secret god―functioning, in effect, as a god herself. It is unclear whether Mai ever recalls her past at all. Her origins during her time as a human have never been revealed. She may have lived somewhere similar to the Human Village, or may have been from the Human Village itself. Whether she remembers anything of that life is unknown. Parents, siblings, friends, neighbors, memories of shared meals, play, learning, work, and the quiet routines of everyday life. The sight of the sun sinking below the horizon, the moon hanging in the night sky, the warmth of morning light, and the endlessly blue skies. The world Mai once felt precisely because she was a human who lived there has faded into a distant past, now visible only in faint traces. She can no longer remember whether those days were fulfilling, marked by small worries, or burdened by serious troubles. However, one fact remains certain even without memory. Same as Satono, at some point during her life as a human, Mai crossed paths with the secret god, Okina Matara. Mai chooses to remain silent. From her own experience, she has reason to believe that the secret god is seeking successors for her servants. She feels that something similar had occurred when Mai herself was taken on as a servant. The four seasons existed at once, scattered across different places, and the divine woman who appeared with two servants seemed to belong neither to this world nor to any other. Mai does not say whether she accepted that fate of her own will, or whether she was never given the chance to refuse, whether it was an act of salvation or one of despair, something that happened amid the quiet of everyday life or in response to some sudden event. Nevertheless, the reason the secret god chose her remains etched clearly in her mind, sharp and unmistakable, like bamboo split cleanly in two.

Attacks

Bamboo Grass Frenzied Dance

The Spread Shot of Mai Teireida from the world where the four seasons are in total disarray (a Touhou LW original). The secret god's servant has the fragrance of bamboo grass. Mai asked Satono whether she remembered her life before meeting their master, back when she was human. Satono gave a vague reply, claiming she barely remembered anything. Mai sensed the lie but chose to let it slide. She felt there was no way Satono could have forgotten the last time the seasons in various locations were completely out of whack.

Vital Stimulation

The Focus Shot of Mai Teireida from the world where the four seasons are in total disarray (a Touhou LW original). The secret god's servant has the fragrance of bamboo grass. Mai was confused. Now that she has remembered her life as a human, she finds herself unable to explain why she forgot it in the first place. Because she forgot, she can't know the reason. And yet, now that she does remember, she can't understand why those memories returned only now. The more she thinks about it, the more unclear everything becomes. As she looks back on her life, on her days spent living as a servant of the secret god, she finds herself unable to clearly grasp what she felt, what she did, or the things she accomplished. Instead, she is shocked by how many things she can't recall, no matter how hard she tries. If the reason is simply that those events happened long ago, then why can she remember her life as a human now? If the reason is that those memories were insignificant, then does that mean her work as a servant of the secret god was insignificant as well? It all felt strange and contradictory. She remembers once speaking about something similar with the shikigami who serves the youkai sage. But the shikigami never spoke of the past, as though no such past existed at all.

Mad Dance: Frenzied Tengu-Frightening - Vitality

A Spell Card of Mai Teireida from the world where the four seasons are in total disarray (a Touhou LW original). She unleashes an attack she practiced with the intention of fighting in combination with Satono. Mai doesn't understand her master's intentions. No longer human, she exists as an extension of her master, much like a limb that cannot comprehend the thoughts of the mind and exists only to carry out its commands. The only one who fully understands her master Okina Matara is the secret god, Okina Matara herself.

Bullet Dance: Twin Typhoons - Vitality

A Spell Card of Mai Teireida from the world where the four seasons are in total disarray (a Touhou LW original). She unleashes an attack she practiced with the intention of fighting in combination with Satono. Mai isn't foolish enough to ask her master for the answers. She knows that, at best, she would be told not to seek answers lightly, or reproached for her naivety, even though she's never been told so outright. If her hypothesis is correct, and if the past is something that takes shape only when it is remembered, then seeking answers from her master alone could never bring her any closer to the truth.

Door to the Hidden Season

The Last Word of Mai Teireida from the world where the four seasons are in total disarray (a Touhou LW original). She predicts who will pass the trial. Mai imagines a future in which she herself becomes the secret god. In that future, her role as a servant would be entrusted to a successor, while her master would retire and spend her remaining years peacefully in the village. Maybe if Mai worked hard enough, such a future might be attainable. But for that to happen, a successor would first need to be found. Or perhaps her master already saw through everything, quietly suppressing Mai's plan before it could even take form. "Master... Master!" She called out to the radiant figure that appeared before her, flanked by two servants. They almost looked like triplets. Three Suns, three Moons, three stars... In that moment, Mai realized she had been completely entranced.
