Character Information

Temperament: Higasa
Higasa (a Touhou LW original) refers to the halo that forms around the sun. It is a fitting temperament for Akyuu, the chronicler of Gensokyo. Akyuu is endowed with Wood Phase, tied to her role as Gensokyo's chronicler, and Moon Essence, tied to her nature as a Child of Miare who reincarnates through the ages. The strong and kind Wood Phase resists Water Phase, because water nourishes wood, but it is weak to Metal Phase, because metal carves wood. The cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence resists the alluring and arrogant Sun Essence, but it is weak to the diverse and uncooperative Star Essence.
Ability/Backstory: Capable of never forgetting things seen once
The ability of Hieda no Akyuu from a world of flawless memory (a Touhou LW original). This ability seems basically the same as the Hieda no Akyuu of our world's ability. She should have been finalizing the Gensokyo Chronicle, but something seems to have gone wrong. The 9.7th Prolonged Incident. The compilation of the Gensokyo Chronicle seems to be never-ending. Even among prolonged incidents, this one is peculiar. But there's no smoke without fire. The potential impact of an incomplete Gensokyo Chronicle is unknown. However, if Akyuu is right and it can act as the bridge between humans and youkai, then leaving it incomplete is simply not an option. Akyuu is the reincarnation of Hieda no Are, a person who lived over a millennium ago, and is considered legendary to people today. Her every reincarnation is known as the Maiden of Miare, and Akyuu is the ninth reincarnation. The maidens are also referred to as the Children of Miare, which is not gender specific. However, the newspapers describe Akyuu as the ninth Maiden of Miare, implying that all previous Children of Miare were also female. The Maidens of Miare have compiled the Gensokyo Chronicle for generations, with the Hieda family carrying on the task of preserving and recording its history. This also means that Gensokyo must have existed during the era of the first Maiden of Miare. Across reincarnations, the Maiden retains a sense of being Hieda no Are, but remembers little beyond what concerns the Chronicle. Only the Maiden of Miare can truly say whether that qualifies her as the same individual. Akyuu's Gumonji ability is essentially a form of complete, flawless memory. While her origin as Hieda no Are appears simple on the surface, it is far more complicated, and it's believed that she is called the Chronicler of Gensokyo and the Memory of Gensokyo for reasons that go beyond her duty or her ability. Gensokyo has undergone continual change over the centuries, and the Gensokyo Chronicle has adapted its focus and style to match those changes. This also means that Hieda no Are (currently Akyuu) has changed through each reincarnation. Unlike youkai, who live for a long time, Akyuu has experienced these eras as a human. In that sense, she has grown alongside Gensokyo as it changes, making her almost a living reflection of Gensokyo as she records it in real time. With that in mind, Yukari Yakumo's habit of striding into the Hieda household in the Human Village to influence the Chronicle's contents doesn't seem all that strange. And yet, the Gensokyo Chronicle remains unfinished. The constant revision requests have brought the work to a standstill. These requests come not only from Yukari Yakumo, but from youkai of every sort, and even humans, mostly asking for corrections to their own entries. Some youkai go as far as nitpicking entries that aren't even theirs. Since Yukari's revisions were accepted, everyone else thinks they should get to tweak things too. Akyuu normally expects some revisions before publication, but this was beyond reasonable. Did Yukari's revision request spark an all-out editorial war?

The Hakurei Shrine Maiden Article

The Spread Shot of Hieda no Akyuu from a world of flawless memory (a Touhou LW original). Bullets shoot out from the article on Reimu. Akyuu had shown this article to Reimu Hakurei when she stopped by the manor. According to Reimu, that was the first time they met. It's strange because the Gensokyo Chronicle should've been nearly complete by then.

The Focus Shot of Hieda no Akyuu from a world of flawless memory (a Touhou LW original). Bullets shoot out from the article on Marisa. Marisa had a few complaints about the write-up, and Akyuu promised to revise it right then and there. Apparently, the Gensokyo Chronicle is flexible enough to accommodate that sort of thing.

The Thousand-Year Child of Miare

A Spell Card of Hieda no Akyuu from a world of flawless memory (a Touhou LW original). Bullets shoot out from several articles. The Gensokyo Chronicle details youkai traits and methods for dealing with them. Akyuu hopes that spreading this knowledge will help humans regain their footing in the youkai-dominated Gensokyo. But that's just her official stance about it. She feels that the Chronicle only really needs to satisfy human curiosity.

The Mystery of the Unresolved Records

A Spell Card of Hieda no Akyuu from a world of flawless memory (a Touhou LW original). Bullets shoot out from a particular article. Hieda no Akyuu is human, but an extraordinarily special one who serves as the ninth Maiden of Miare. As Hieda no Are (her first incarnation), she has effectively lived for over a millennium. Her repeated reincarnations may be the reason, but her lifespan grows shorter with every rebirth. After each death, many long years pass before she is reborn. By the time Hieda no Akyuu reincarnates, all her human acquaintances will have long since passed. The question is: Should she build bonds with humans, whose brief lives will end long before her return, or with youkai, who live far longer and might still be there even across her many rebirths?

Gensokyo Chronicle - Endless Revision

The Last Word of Hieda no Akyuu from a world of flawless memory (a Touhou LW original). Revising the Gensokyo Chronicle is an endless process. Yukari Yakumo once declared that the truth of Gensokyo resides within Akyuu, and that the Chronicle must always align with that truth. She spoke as though she were some sort of god presiding over Gensokyo. Then again, maybe that's just the kind of presence a sage has. Akyuu described the Chronicle to Reimu and the others as a work meant merely to satisfy human curiosity, a view that stands in stark contrast to Yukari Yakumo's understanding of it. Perhaps, just as humans and youkai see Gensokyo in completely different ways, the Gensokyo Chronicle too takes on a different meaning depending on who reads it.

Skill: Youkai Encyclopedia

At this point, it's practically a promotional piece for the youkai. Even so, the youkai always have something to nitpick about.

Skill: Heroic Legends

The Chronicle includes entries on a few humans too, since they are just as much a part of Gesokyo's history.

Skill: Danger Zone Guide

It's worth referring to this guide when walking around Gensokyo... assuming you survive long enough for it to be of use.
