"Mom... I mean, Miss Miko is trying to investigate something, but I'm more interested in seeing how fast I can go on this cool jet ski!"
Kokoro uses Ayakashi, the pseudo-artifact, as a kind of tool to help her learn how to express herself, even though that doesn't appear to be its original purpose. It may seem like she zooms across the land and sea without a care in the world, but she takes special care not to endanger anyone. (Otherwise, a certain shrine maiden would endanger her.) While the way she talks may sound wild and aggressive, she doesn't say anything that might hurt someone. (A certain shrine maiden would have words for her if she did.) Kokoro decided that instead of lazing about doing nothing, she'd beat the sweltering summer's heat by blasting it away with her jet ski. It's fun, and it also lets her forget about her troubles.
"How do I steer mine boat with such skill and poise?"
"You want to know how to sound cool? What do you mean?"
Miko's two attendants had no idea what Kokoro hoped to achieve, but they were happy to teach all they could to such an enthusiastic student. While Kokoro isn't human, they thought she might have the potential to become some kind of youkai hermit.
Ayakashi, the Pseudo-Artifact
Ayakashi is the name of one of Kokoro's 66 masks. Miko used special Taoist magic on the mask to transform it into a pseudo-artifact. Unlike the artifacts of Heaven that can primarily only be used by celestials, pseudo-artifacts can also be used by hermits and Taoists. According to Miko, they're just as powerful as the real thing. It looks like a jet ski because Miko took inspiration from a species of youkai that shares the name "ayakashi."

Kokoro decided that because it's a mask of the ocean, she'd wear it to express how much she enjoys summer and playing at the beach.

Hata no Kokoro doesn't know where her emotions are leading her. She isn't sure what she'll find if she rides out beyond the horizon or even why Miko created this jet ski in the first place... All she knows is that she feels completely free when she rides it. It's like her soul isn't bound by anything. But what is the name of this emotion?
