I'm Nemuno Sakata, ya hear? ...Did you just call me Ma? Heh. Go on, dig inta some of Ma's cookin'.
Introduction
Hey, Miss Urumi. These parties always like this? Whole lotta "tough guys," but not one of 'em's built to raise a kid. Whatever. I'm Nemuno Sakata, Nemunoki owner, and I'm opening up here! Food or bullets―pick what you're eatin'! ...Hm? Somethin' ain't right. Hakurei Shrine? When'd I...? Hey, kid. Yeah, you. Oh, are you eatin'? Heh, simple food, but you can tell it was made with care. I can practically see the love that went into it. Your ma make that? ...You did?! Not bad for someone so small. What? You wanna learn cookin' from me? ...Fine, I'll teach ya. Get ready. I ain't goin' easy on ya.
Purple Heart
Keep yer knife sharp at all times.
Blue Heart
Special rules for bullet battles? Don't know, don't care.
Green Heart
I heard folks who're good at playin' house can fire stronger bullets. Since playin' house is for girls, stands to reason girls are tougher.
Orange Heart
Playin' house is basically playin' ma. And no, it ain't a coincidence that playin' house includes cookin'. "Ma" is one of the first sounds a kid ever makes. And the first meal a kid eats comes from their ma.
Pink Heart
Humans ditch their ma, Mother Earth, just to cook up a convenient stand-in you call civilization. It's a waste of time, and not smart at all. ...Don't you go lookin' down on the yamanba of the sanctuary. Ain't no mother greater than the mountain.
Summer
This is the horse mackerel Miss Urumi brought us. If you don't respect mackerel, you'll never be a real cook. Show me how to fillet it good 'nd proper.
The Legendary Mountain Nanny is my huntin' rifle. I was fine with just a knife, but Miss Urumi talked me into using it. These days, even magicians can fire somethin' like this, right?
Enhancement
Nemunoki ain't just my kitchen. It's my sanctuary.
Return
What's with the ax? It sure brings back memories.
Home 1
A chatty monkey in the sanctuary said I should team up with Miss Urumi. She's been supplyin' fish to Nemunoki ever since. Fresh as it gets, too.
Home 2
Yamajorou are basically our kin. Stop goin' down to the village, and you end up a yamanba... What, you wanna know if I used to visit the village? That's a secret!
Home 3
Yamanba got their own peckin' order. At the top's the king. Right now, that's Miss Ubame. Some ancient foothill dynasty? A fallen shrine maiden? What you on about? If you're talking about a mysterious old shrine, I hear there's one deep in the sanctuary.
Reaction 1
A mother's strong. A child's weak. But a mother's weak when it comes to her child.
Reaction 2
Hm? Miss your ma's lap? C'mere, you can sleep on mine.
Reaction 3
Kintoki's a legend now. But back then... *pats head*
Task
Tasks, huh? Hard work's a virtue. Keep at it.

Hmph. Still nothing compared to the legendary Kintoki. I'll have to whip ya into shape!
Defeat
Not bad. But you ain't on the legendary Kintoki's level.

Character Information
Temperament: ELVES
ELVES (a Touhou LW original) refers to a type of electrical discharge in the upper mesosphere or lower thermosphere. This is an apt temperament for Nemuno, a yamanba who cares for and feeds weak children so they'll grow up strong and healthy.
"This 'ere's called a huntin' rifle or somethin', right?" (Strong against Fire Phase.)
"It ain't so different from my cleaver." (Strong against Wood Phase.)
"It's pretty light compared to that massive ax the Kintoki used ta swing around!" (Weak to Metal Phase.)
Ability/Backstory: Capable of creating sanctuaries (Nun)
The ability of Nemuno Sakata from the world delirious with compassion (a Touhou LW original). It doesn't appear to be any different from Nemuno's original ability.
Yamanba are the nannies of the mountain. It's possible that Nemuno Sakata was the yamanba who raised the legendary hero Kintoki. There are many different versions of this story. Some say that the yamanba was his actual mother, others that she was a foster mom, but regardless, she was the one who raised him.
Kintoki is one of Japan's most beloved heroes. As a child, he wielded a massive axe and tamed a bear, the king of the mountain beasts, which he also used as a mount. He beat a bear in sumo wrestling, too. It only makes sense that a child raised in such a way would grow to become a famous hero.
A large part of Kintoki's mental and physical strength must have come from the yamanba's cooking. After all, it doesn't matter how generous the mountain is with its bounty and blessings unless you can digest them. And who better at turning a mountain into sustenance than a yamanba? Yamanba are the shrine maidens of the mountain gods.
Using a gun for hunting doesn't really match with a yamanba's way of life. However, according to a certain ordinary magician, rifles do, in fact, exist in Gensokyo. Yamanba love using knives, so they're not opposed to metal. And since they cook, they have no problem using fire. So, as long as the gun was fired using their usual battle of bullet spells rather than gunpowder, yamanba shouldn't mind using them. At least, that's how it is in this world.
Attacks
Bullet Feast
The Spread Shot of Nemuno Sakata from the world delirious with compassion (a Touhou LW original). She prepares a feast for a child in this attack.
In this world, the better you are at caring for and raising children, the stronger you are in battles of bullets. Basically, it's like playing house, but as with all forms of play, the more seriously you take it, the stronger you become. Yamanba are pro cooks, so surely they're unbeatable.

The Focus Shot of Nemuno Sakata from the world delirious with compassion (a Touhou LW original). She serves her home cooking to a child in this attack.
Nemuno's name comes from the Persian silk tree, called "nemunoki" in Japanese. Similarly, her fellow yamanba, Ubame Chirizuka, is named after the ubame oak tree. Perhaps it is tradition for yamanba to be named after mountain trees. If so, it is a beautiful tradition.

Dream Exhaustion: Endless Mountain Trek
A Spell Card of Nemuno Sakata from the world delirious with compassion (a Touhou LW original). She speaks of the mountain's bounty in this attack.
There are many different legends and tales about yamanba across Japan. But most of them feature a yamanba who is happy to let someone stay the night at their place in the mountains, and treats them to a tasty dinner. The mountains are a treasure trove of ingredients, containing all the nutrients a human needs, so in a way, it makes sense that yamanba know how to cook up a delicious meal. The tales that then talk about yamanba attacking and eating their guests once they fall asleep must be mistaken... right?

Kitchen Knife: Far East Aschenputtel
A Spell Card of Nemuno Sakata from the world delirious with compassion (a Touhou LW original). She talks about the mountain's spirits in this attack.
Some yamanba tend to act like fairies or magicians. Perhaps they have been influenced by Western fairy tales, or maybe this is a case of convergent evolution. Regardless, there seems to be an unconscious ideal shared by all of humanity since ancient times that there are beings who live apart from humans yet are willing to help humans in need with their strange powers.

Legendary Mountain Nanny
The Last Word of Nemuno Sakata from the world delirious with compassion (a Touhou LW original). She raises a legendary hero in this attack.
If Nemuno is the yamanba who cared for and raised Kintoki, that would make her a true mentor of heroes. In modern terms, she'd be like a coach who trained a famous sports star, or a teacher who spotted and nurtured a child prodigy. However, it doesn't seem like she was some kind of helicopter parent, working tirelessly to provide Kintoki with the very best education. Unlike some modern-day parents or caregivers, yamanba feel no need to emulate "proven" education or training regimes in the hope that their child will have a successful future. They don't care about any of that. Yamanba simply care for and raise children because they want them to grow up strong and healthy. And that is how true heroes are born.
