Character Information

Temperament: Fata Morgana
Fata Morgana (a Touhou LW original) refers to a mirage. This is a fitting temperament for Kokoro, who has become obsessed with playing the villain. Her emotions shift freely, reshaping the essence of her being with every change. "Only those ready to take a hit have the right to fire their bullets." (Strong against Star Essence.) "Why are you getting so emotional?" (Weak to Fire Phase.) "Oh, so that's how normal people feel?" (Weak to Water Phase.) "Ugh... Silence! You, the hidden persona within my concealed eye!" (Weak to Wood Phase.)
Ability/Backstory: Capable of manipulating emotions (Fallen)
The Ability of Hata no Kokoro from the world obsessed with pretend villainy (a Touhou LW original). This ability seems practically the same as the Kokoro of our world's ability. She seems to have concluded that emotionless cruelty is true evil. The season when evil runs rampant. Villains steal the harvest from the fields and even take from barren lands. Yet destroying the land outright would mean the end for everyone. So instead, they let it grow, let it build, let it live... until it is ripe for the taking again. What does it mean to be evil? Hata no Kokoro tried to find out for herself. The Scarlet Devil Mansion's grand library, Suzunaan's shelves of books for rent, the Hieda family's records—she had plenty of places to look. But she didn't know how to begin. Perhaps the truth was out there somewhere, but she'd never find it if she just searched randomly. Sumireko once told her that you can talk to a smartphone and get it to pull up anything you want to know. But Kokoro couldn't help but wonder what exactly one was supposed to say to such a thing. Sumireko said all you had to do was talk to it and figure things out along the way. To Kokoro, it sounded suspiciously like a tsukumogami, or perhaps a shikigami. When she thought about it, Kokoro realized that Sumireko was just giving orders to a being like her―telling it what to search for, making it find answers, then complaining and demanding more. The thought made her feel a twinge of sympathy for the smartphone. After all, she was doing the exact same thing to herself. Kokoro had looked into so many things that she'd forgotten which source said what. Still, she managed to piece together the gist of it. Apparently, there exists a Demon King of the Sixth Heaven, said to be truly evil... or so the stories claim. Miss Byakuren had mentioned that it hinders people from reaching enlightenment. However, Lord Tenma, who resides atop the Youkai Mountain, is apparently the same being. This Sixth Heaven is also known as Paranimmita Vasavatti and often leads to the Demon King being mistaken for Maheshvara due to the similarity of their names in Japanese, Takejizaiten and Daijizaiten, respectively. Maheshvara refers to Shiva and also Daikokuten, the black god of fortune. Tracing that connection, Kokoro realized with some irony that evil is often associated with the color black. By the time Kokoro had researched this far, she'd come to the conclusion that none of it would amount to anything. In Gensokyo, justice is simply whatever the shrine maiden decides to do. It doesn't really matter whether she's right, wrong, or somewhere in between. Righteousness is something that's fabricated, adjusted, and decided only after everything has already happened. Humans are creatures who can't feel at peace unless they convince themselves they understand. When Kokoro felt that same false sense of clarity, she realized she was finally learning what human emotion is. And with that, the definition of evil became clear. It's everything that isn't justice.

The Focus Shot of Hata no Kokoro from the world obsessed with pretend villainy (a Touhou LW original). She observes her targets through her favorite Venetian half mask in this attack. She still can't quite understand what it really means to be a bad girl. What makes someone bad? Why do they act that way? Until she figures that out, she can't truly make it part of herself. But maybe she's starting to get it. Everyone praised her, saying she was a good girl, for trying to learn emotions. So maybe to be bad, she just has to do the exact opposite?

Dark Mask: Villain Arc Possession

A Spell Card of Hata no Kokoro from the world obsessed with pretend villainy (a Touhou LW original). She pretends to be consumed by darkness in this attack. Kokoro tries to forget everything she's learned about emotions. She suppresses her feelings and makes them impossible to read because that's what a bad girl would probably do. If people call her rude or insincere, that means she's doing it right. So she tried imitating the villains she'd read about, but she's still not entirely sure she's doing it right.

Perforation: Love's Ultimate Breakthrough

A Spell Card of Hata no Kokoro from the world obsessed with pretend villainy (a Touhou LW original). She pretends to be evil in this attack. She feels like she's spent ages studying emotions, but the emotion of being emotionless still doesn't make sense to her. Is it even possible to truly feel nothing? Maybe it's hard for her precisely because she's so full of feelings. Or maybe that's just how it is for everyone. But if that's the case, why does the word emotionless even exist?

Don't Bother Falling for Me―I Don't Have That Emotion

The Last Word of Hata no Kokoro from the world obsessed with pretend villainy (a Touhou LW original). She pretends to be a villain in this attack. While studying what it means to be a "bad girl," Hata no Kokoro ran into a mysterious girl. Nothing she said made any sense, but she was clearly traveling in search of something important. What really caught Kokoro's attention was that the girl looked exactly like her... except she wore sleek, dark clothes that screamed "cool villain." That's when Kokoro realized that maybe she could pull off that kind of look too! After all, she'd learned that sometimes changing the outside helps shape what's inside. From the moment she saw her, she dreamed of wearing an outfit just like that. "I already possess your emotions," the girl said. "You've got nothing worth taking, so I'll let you go." Kokoro couldn't tell if she was trying to insult her. Before she could decide, the girl added, "It would've been better for you if there was still something left for me to steal." But, well, she looked so stylish and cool that Kokoro couldn't stay mad at her. Emotions are complex. Anger doesn't always come when it should. Sometimes you forgive, sometimes you forget, and sometimes you simply don't care. Was that it? Was this what being emotionless felt like? She thought she understood for a moment, but as the girl vanished, her newfound clarity vanished with her. Something faint stayed behind, though. Like a seed of emotion, buried deep inside her heart. Emotion... or rather, the emotion of being emotionless. Whatever it was, Kokoro still didn't get it.
