Character Information

Temperament: Kuroi Sekki
Kuroi Sekki (a Touhou LW original) refers to red miasma sealed within a pitch-black room. Flandre's temperament deviates from the usual laws of Phases and Essences. She is weak against Sun Essence, with its governance of day, Water Phase, which acts as a barrier against vampires, and Wood Phase, known in legends for slaying them. She is strong against Moon Essence and Star Essence, with their governance of night, as well as Metal Phase, the symbol of universality.
Ability/Backstory: - Ability Unknown -
The ability of Flandre Scarlet (D8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). Unlike the abilities of other Flandres, this Flandre's ability is shrouded in mystery. At present, two distinct phenomena have been identified: Memory Fragments and Multiverse Trails. They can be referred to collectively as types of Dust, though some prefer the name Stardust. However, the question remains: if both Memory Fragments and Multiverse Trails are forms of Dust, what is it that sets them apart? The simplest way to explain their differences is to compare them to a tree. Memory Fragments resemble the cross-sections left behind when a tree is cut. The pattern of the cross-section changes depending on where the cut is made, and there are as many patterns as there are places to cut. However, since fate was cut at a specific point, it can no longer connect to the fate that would've followed. Multiverse Trails, on the other hand, are like branches that grow from the same seed but extend in entirely different directions. They share the same roots, and even part of the trunk up to a certain height. But once they diverge, what grows beyond that point can no longer be called the same fate. So, are there truly only two forms of Dust? Or could there be others yet to be discovered? And if there are more, what parts of the tree would best represent them? It would be foolish to dismiss this as idle speculation, because the fate of this Flandre hangs upon that very question. The following is an excerpt of a report left by another being who claims to be honest and appears to share the same shadow as Flandre. It was found drifting between worlds and has been restored. "...There's someone inside my head." That thought was eating away at Flandre. What even exists inside a vampire's skull? Do youkai really need a brain? No, that's not what this was about. If vampires think with their hearts, then this was about her heart. If they think with their blood, then it was about her blood. Because Flandre was sure someone was in there. But then she considered the opposite. This kind of reasoning isn't something an ordinary mind would come up with. It's only because Flandre embodies madness that she can think this way. "What if the real intruder... is me?" Flandre wondered if she herself was a sentient, cancerous youkai cell living inside the girl called Flandre. Perhaps the reason she thought someone was inside her head was because, as a parasite, she had inverted her perception, believing that she was the real one, and that the girl was inside her. But maybe the truth was the exact opposite. If this were simply a case of split personality, or even some kind of possession, everything would be far easier to understand. Macaronesia It's not some sweet little island covered in macarons. Flandre wondered if paradise was really in the East. All she had found there were barren lands and foreign tribes. True paradise, she believed, must lie far to the West. The idea that the world is round is heretical, so she must sail westward to find it. She was convinced paradise lies in the West. That's why she called her Gensokyo Macaronesia. Is Flandre the pierrot? Yuuma Toutetsu saw Reimu's red outfit and was reminded of Flandre. In a way, their taste in clothing was similar, though neither of them would ever admit it. The culprit behind the incident in pseudo paradise was a pierrot, and one of the victims reported seeing a blonde shrine maiden. It's known that the blonde shrine maiden and the shrine maiden of paradise were not the same person. But if the pierrot and the blonde shrine maiden were one and the same... they sound a lot like Flandre Scarlet. That would explain everything. Her own Spell Cards are a confession. The abandoned mansion in the forest was the Prismriver Mansion, which neighbors the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Yes. Flandre must've been the pierrot all along. Eight humans vanished from Gensokyo that day. Seven were taken by youkai, and it seemed as though the last one had left Gensokyo. But the truth is, she never left. She became a vampire. That makes eight in total. ...Strange, though. Flandre had an alibi. For 495 years, she never once left her room. That incident happened just before the first time she ever stepped outside. Macaronesia is a paradise of islands surrounded on all sides by water. But Flandre, who had never left her room, didn't know what a paradise was supposed to look like. The only world she knew was a sealed chamber, surrounded on all sides by walls. So her definition of paradise was an endless closed space that never felt small, no matter how full or crowded it got. A paradise, where you could keep walking in any direction without ever hitting a wall. She could pack everything and everyone inside it. Her sister Remilia, Patchouli, Sakuya, Meiling, even Koakuma. There are no walls, so nothing can break or be broken. Flandre suddenly understood. No one was inside her head. She had been the one sealed away, trapped within a solid, unbreakable room all along. Maybe the pierrot and the blonde shrine maiden were never the same person after all. She wondered what the other her thought about it. [The report ends here.]

Attacks

Crude Familiars

The Spread Shot of Flandre Scarlet (D8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She commands familiars twisted and destroyed by her madness in this attack. Flandre wonders whether people like reading books. She isn't sure if she does. But she'll read them if there's nothing else to do. She wonders how much of what's written in a book truly reflects the author's thoughts, and how much has taken on a life of its own.

Flaming Staff of Madness

The Focus Shot of Flandre Scarlet (D8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She attacks with her magic staff, wreathed in flames of madness. Flandre once heard that the True Lost Word doesn't exist anywhere. But how could that be true? If the Library of Babel holds every word ever written, then surely it must be there as well. Even monkeys would eventually find it if they had typewriters. There's no such thing as a word that doesn't exist.

Forbidden Magic: Bloody Laevateinn

A Spell Card of Flandre Scarlet (D8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She transforms her magic staff into a pair of swords in this attack. Flandre wonders if the True Lost Word might simply be every word strung together, with one extra letter added at the end. But even that is said to be recorded in the Library of Babel. How does that work? She feels that if she could understand that, she might be able to destroy infinity itself.

Forbidden Dragon: Dragon Clipper

A Spell Card of Flandre Scarlet (D8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She wields madness so intense it could even sever a dragon's neck. Destruction has always been Flandre's defining trait. Even air and water can be broken apart if you destroy their molecules and atoms. Space-time collapses under gravity, and even mass and energy lose meaning inside a singularity. The universe began from a singularity. If humans could somehow find order within one, they might be able to create universes of their own. But that would be bad. Destruction is salvation... even if it's a devil's kind of salvation.

Bathtub Full of Apple Juice

The Last Word of Flandre Scarlet (D8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She attacks with memories that became fragmented when she reached the halfway point in achieving her goal. She doesn't want to believe that honesty is a fool's game. But sometimes, the honest men are thieves. Being honest doesn't make you good. It just means you tell the truth. Flandre knows that if the unprecedented calamity, the Final End, truly exists, it isn't waiting at the edge of the universe or hidden somewhere in the future. Everyone thinks they're safe within themselves, like they're inside a shelter sealed off from the outside world. They believe that if they curl up and hide, their minds will stay free. But they're wrong. Somewhere deep inside every mind lies a hole that connects straight to the outside. The truth is, there's no difference between inside and out. It's like a Klein bottle.
