Kuroi Kirisame (a Touhou LW original) refers to pitch-black, misty rain that heralds the end. Marisa is endowed with Water Phase, the temperament of the rain that falls in the Forest of Magic, and Star Essence, the temperament of the shooting stars she saw at the shooting star wishing party. The flexible and patient Water Phase resists Metal Phase, because metal collects water, but it is weak to Earth Phase, because earth directs water. The diverse and uncooperative Star Essence resists the cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence, but it is weak to the charming and arrogant Sun Essence. This Marisa has left her home world so far behind that it is nothing but a pin-prick in her past. She can no longer turn back. Still, she cannot help but wonder what Reimu is up to now... even though she knows that the concept of "now" doesn't mean anything since time cannot be concurrent between worlds. She hates herself for it, but she wishes that resolving the big incident would somehow turn everything back to how it was.
The ability of Marisa Kirisame from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). Unlike the abilities of other Marisas, this Marisa's ability is shrouded in mystery. Originally, her ability was the same as that possessed by other Marisas. However, it became unidentifiable when her fate came to an end and she turned into a fragment of memory. Ironically, she set out on her journey to collect fragments of herself, but in the end, she turned into the very thing she was looking for. This Marisa's fate did not end due to any specific event. It simply ended. While the universe may turn due to cause and effect, any stories within it are an illusion. When most things disappear, they do not have any narrative significance. They simply disappear. Nothing can be done to change this. However, this also means that four fragments came before this Marisa, and at least four more fragments will probably come after. These fragments are practically guaranteed to share an almost identical history with this Marisa. This wouldn't be the case if her fate had a suitably dramatic ending, tying in with other story beats, because that would make her and her memories unique. It is better for fates and memories to be cleanly cut like this so that the snippets can be clearly interpreted as part of a whole without any unnecessary or contradicting overlap. The following is a report written by a self-proclaimed fool who was so focused on chasing the stars that she ended up way too far from home. "Astra, I've traveled all the way here in search of ability fragments." I arrived in a place without a name, beyond the starry sky. Looking up, I saw multi-colored starbows stretched across the sky like an aurora. The sparks caused by stardust collisions sank into the primordial galactic sea and disappeared without a sound. Everyone has their own vision of what the edge of the universe should look like, and this was mine. My newly-named partner stared at me quizzically, even though she should have been able to understand what I said. "Nothing is permanent. Form, nature, and function cannot remain the same forever. The people of Hourai are the only exception." I wasn't planning to talk about the people of Hourai, but it's kinda unavoidable. They're the exception to most things. "Living beings continuously spread traces of their existence until they die. I'm talking about environmental DNA, fingerprints, and electromagnetic waves that fly to the edge of the universe. Apparently, these waves get recorded in the event horizons of black holes. Anyway, there are two major reasons why this happens: hope and despair." I held up two fingers to Astra. "Despair, because every moment, someone or something falls through the cracks in the universe." Entropy increases, and it's no use crying over spilled milk. All living beings eventually die because lifeforce continuously leaks out of their body, bit by bit. A completely impermeable vessel doesn't exist. Not even stars are perfect. They're like massive pots, holding millions of years' worth of lifeforce, but even they will inevitably crack. Everything in existence is in a constant state of decay, and nothing is the same as it was just a moment ago. I bet even the borrowed books on my shelf will return to their original owners, given enough time. "And hope because everything lost is eventually found again and recorded somewhere." Things that have existed in the past will forever exist somewhere in the future. And they can always be returned to how they were previously. This is because the events that led to their disappearance are also recorded somewhere. The problem is finding a way to return them... There are probably quite a few ways if you don't care about efficiency, like how the books I borrowed will eventually return to their owners. "My plan is to gather fragments of my own ability, to power it up as much as possible. And I have to map the stars so we don't lose our way. That's what this journey is all about. Understand?" Simply put, I should be able to beat any incident, no matter how unprecedented, as long as I have enough power. Astra still seemed confused. I guess we'll need more time to fully understand one another. Thinking about it now, everything I said about the universe also applies to Gensokyo. Perhaps that's what I really wanted to talk about. [The report ends here.] Astra, the Evil Dragon Astra is the daughter of an evil dragon Marisa helped in the past. Considering how long it takes for a dragon to fully mature, this Marisa must be centuries old. Astra is still small for a dragon, but she already possesses a significant portion of the wisdom and power that dragons are famed for. Marisa gave her the name Astra, hoping this would help her wish come true. This Marisa's memories abruptly ended soon after she met Astra, even though this should have been the start of a new journey together. Master Blade (50%) Rinnosuke Morichika created this hihi'irokane magic item by combining the Sword of Kirisame with the mini hakkero. Hihi'irokane is a type of metal imbued with the magical power of the Sun. The Sun is the celestial object of everlasting order, but for Marisa, who will borrow anything, even the Sun, it symbolizes freedom. The Master Blade grows in power alongside her.
The Spread Shot of Marisa Kirisame from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She remembers swooping with her evil dragon in this attack. This Marisa has been taking notes and recording the systematic movements of the stars for so long that she can't remember when she started. However, she has yet to create a fully fleshed-out Star System interpretation of the cosmos.
The Focus Shot of Marisa Kirisame from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She remembers charging forth with her evil dragon in this attack. This Marisa has collected all kinds of magic items during her travels. Some make traveling between worlds safer, and others extend her lifespan by manipulating proper time. However, she doesn't need a magic item to communicate with Astra because Astra can understand human speech.
A Spell Card of Marisa Kirisame from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She remembers firing lasers with her evil dragon in this attack. There are many different types of dragons, but what they all share in common is power. That's why Marisa is so interested in them. She wants to see all the strange and magnificent dragons that surely exist in other worlds with her own eyes.
A Spell Card of Marisa Kirisame from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She remembers dropping stars out of the sky with her evil dragon in this attack. Marisa trusts that she and Astra will make a great team. When Astra's bat-like wings grow big enough to enshroud Marisa from head to toe, they will fight alongside each other as equals. Picturing what she'd look like with a grown-up Astra's wings stretched out behind her reminds her of a person from her distant past―a person whose name she no longer remembers.
The Last Word of Marisa Kirisame from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She attacks with memories that became fragmented when she reached the halfway point in achieving her goal. Only dragons are meant to have the ability to travel between worlds. Marisa's theory is that the cosmos is one massive grimoire written in the language of dragons. She believes that resolving this freakishly big incident would be easy if she could only leaf through the grimoire and decipher this world's page. However, turning the pages of the cosmos takes an enormous amount of magical power―power that she will stop at nothing to obtain.
The Kikimimi-Zukin (Hood of Good-Hearing) is a mythical item said to be made by dragons. Supposedly, putting it on lets you talk with animals.
Marisa can no longer remember when she first learned how to map out the stars.
If there is a language capable of describing the entire cosmos, what would it sound like?
