Niwaka-ame (a Touhou LW original) refers to sudden rain showers that stop almost as soon as they start. This is an apt temperament for Enoko, who's often described as Cerberus, the guard dog of Hell. She's endowed with Moon Essence, as she comes from a place filled with magical power, and Water Phase, the temperament of the Forest of Magic. The cooperative and indecisive Moon Essence resists the alluring and arrogant Sun Essence, but it is weak to the diverse and uncooperative Star Essence. The flexible and patient Water Phase resists Metal Phase, because metal collects water, but it is weak to Earth Phase, because earth directs water.
The ability of Enoko Mitsugashira, the immortal yamainu. Although Enoko has been alive for hundreds of years, she only became immortal somewhat recently. Prior to that, she was supposedly nothing more than an extremely elderly yamainu. However, the jewel pendant she received from Zanmu purified her and bestowed immortality upon her. There are many questions surrounding her jewel, but very few answers. All that can be said currently is that it looks almost identical to Seiran's Lunar Jewel, and its effects are reminiscent of Lunar technology. As far as dog youkai go, inugami, dog spirits who possess their victims, are perhaps the most famous. The way in which Enoko was cursed and became unable to die is similar to Son Biten's transformation into an oni, with both processes being comparable to possession. Okuri-inu are another type of dog youkai, who live in the mountains and protect people from other youkai. Perhaps Enoko watched over Marisa when she came to the Forest of Magic because of her okuri-inu nature. After all, the Forest of Magic is a highly dangerous place, and it's not like Marisa's always possessed the brutal firepower she has today. It might be the case that a young Marisa was only able to survive in the forest because Enoko was watching over her, hidden out of sight...
The Spread Shot of Enoko Mitsugashira (a Touhou LW original). She bites ferociously in this attack. The Forest of Magic is famed for being home to magicians. Long ago, a yamainu with an already long lifespan was granted immortality. That yamainu was Enoko, and she was afraid that as the years dragged on, she would wither with age, but fate had the opposite in store for her. This surprising twist came as a result of the jewel that Zanmu Nippaku bestowed upon her.
The Focus Shot of Enoko Mitsugashira (a Touhou LW original). She crunches her jaws ferociously in this attack. The reason Enoko had a long lifespan to begin with was because she ate Zanmu's flesh, who was still human at the time. This cursed Enoko, extending her life. When Zanmu was reunited with Enoko having become a human oni, she didn't get angry at her. In fact, she thanked her. Getting bitten by Enoko was part of her plan to gather people to do her bidding.
A Spell Card of Enoko Mitsugashira. She summons flames that resemble the guard dog of Hell. Enoko intentionally ate a chunk of Zanmu's human flesh, so being cursed with the inability to die was her own fault. But Zanmu provided Enoko with salvation when she used a certain jewel to grant her immortality. For Zanmu, doing so was also an act of forgiveness, after which she believed it was only a matter of time before Enoko pledged loyalty to her... but it seems Enoko was conflicted.
A Spell Card of Enoko Mitsugashira (a Touhou LW original). This striking move resembles that of a yamainu whose strength has been unleashed. Enoko infiltrated the Keiga Family as a spy for Zanmu. Their leader, Saki Kurokoma, was happy to accept Enoko, who she referred to as the Cerberus of Hell. Enoko thought she was exaggerating, but it spoke volumes for Saki's strength of character.
The Last Word of Enoko Mitsugashira (a Touhou LW original). She recalls her territory in this attack. Before eating Zanmu's flesh, Enoko was just a regular yamainu. After eating it, she became a yamainu youkai cursed with an extremely long life. Now, thanks to the power of a special jewel, she lives as an immortal yamainu. The first stretch of time with her extended lifespan was peaceful for Enoko. But what followed were days spent in fear of never dying and watching as her strength dwindled. After becoming immortal, she found herself filled with loyalty but also doubt as her days grew ever more extraordinary. From there, she was introduced to members of the Keiga Family and, eventually, everyone who lived in Gensokyo. Given everything she'd been through, it's not hard to imagine how happy that made her.
Marisa cried as she ran into the forest, and Enoko saw it all.

Animal spirits don't have physical forms. So what are Saki Kurokoma's muscles made of? Spirit flesh?!
