The Spread Shot of Youmu Konpaku (R8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). The attack of a nameless swordsman, who should be famous. When Youmu witnessed this swordsman, she knew they were strong. It was like they didn't need their two swords at their waist. Whatever they held became a weapon. Not held back by any preconceptions, they used whatever advantage they could. But what impressed Youmu the most was how they stood and talked as if they had no doubts whatsoever.
The Focus Shot of Youmu Konpaku (R8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). The attack of a nameless swordsman, who should be famous. Being physically strong is not enough. True strength comes from the heart and mind... To Youmu, this felt like an empty platitude. The heart and mind are not inherently strong, so that strength must come from somewhere else. For example, people without the means to sustain themselves tend to lose their temper more easily and are ruled by their fears and doubts. Conversely, those who are at least somewhat financially stable can enjoy the peace they have now and hope for a brighter future.
A Spell Card of Youmu Konpaku (R8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). The attack of a nameless swordsman, who should be famous. Some suspected that this swordsman couldn't die. But perhaps what made them strong is that they didn't die. Or, at the very least, that they were hard to kill. Either way, those who fear death are weak. You cannot fight properly if you are always protecting your heart. No matter how much armor you wear, there will always be a weak spot, which means you will fear someone targeting it. If you're scared, you cannot step forward when you need to. Your blade alignment will be off, and your senses will dull. Surely, the strongest swordsman is someone who is certain that they will not die, no matter what their opponent tries.
A Spell Card of Youmu Konpaku (R8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). The attack of a nameless swordsman, who should be famous. Youmu heard a rumor that a member of the Fujiwara clan was immortal. Supposedly, the clan was named after a wisteria field, but "fuji" can also mean "undying," so perhaps that is the true reason why they chose it. Also, it's strange that the rumor states that there WAS an immortal. This seems like a contradiction. Maybe they simply lived a very long time, and calling them an immortal was hyperbole. Then again, it's said that if you eat a person of Hourai's liver, you become a person of Hourai. It's possible that the Fujiwara's immortality is passed down from one generation to the next like some kind of family heirloom. Youmu was determined to find out the truth.
The Last Word of Youmu Konpaku (R8) from Memory Fragment 5 (a Touhou LW original). She attacks with the transference of her ecumenical niche being 50% complete. That swordsman was the strongest, but they were not immortal. From now on, they would accompany Youmu as a phantom sword instructor and teach her their skills, just like all the other great swordsmen she met. For her next target... she decided to investigate the rumor about a mad monk who claims to have witnessed the Genpei War.
When you defeat the master of a swordsmanship school, you replace them. Apparently, that is the way of the Niten Ichi-ryu.
"Were they only strong because they were a member of the Fujiwara clan? I have to erase any spell or technique that can bring the dead back to life."
Her two swords are becoming ever more steeped in blood. They lack any maker's mark.
