Character Information

Temperament: Ya no Ame
Ya no Ame (a Touhou LW original) refers to a rain of arrows. This is an apt temperament for Futo, as the Mononobe were a band of warriors during the Age of the Gods. Her temperament has been altered with divine hermit power, endowing her with Wood Phase from sugidama, Earth Phase from 80 plates, and Fire Phase from the living Futsu no Mitama. The strong and kind Wood Phase resists Water Phase, because water nourishes wood, but it is weak to Metal Phase, because metal carves wood. The encompassing and regenerative Earth Phase resists Fire Phase, because fire produces earth, but it is weak to Wood Phase, because wood parts earth. The formless and passionate Fire Phase resists Wood Phase, because wood feeds fire, but it is weak to Water Phase, because water dampens fire. The combination of Fire Phase, Wood Phase, and Earth Phase cancels out any resistance or weakness to Water Phase and Wood Phase.
Ability/Backstory: Capable of manipulating feng shui (Divine)
The ability of Mononobe no Futo from the divine hermit world (a Touhou LW original). This world resembles our own during the last days of the Age of the Gods. However, it is important to note that these days will never end and that this is not the actual Age of the Gods. While more research is needed, it is already clear that this world is not stuck in the actual Age of the Gods. Because its denizens say and think things that no humans living way back then would. The true data records of Gensokyo describe instances of ancient people who, despite being reborn after a very long sleep, possess modern-day knowledge and act in accordance with modern-day norms. It is believed that this is due to some kind of magical interference. This world is similar, but on a completely different scale. History is supposed to progress from the Age of the Gods to antiquity, the Middle Ages, and then modernity (with a debatable number of steps in between), but there is no guarantee that this world will ever attain this future. Their Age of the Gods is so different that it's basically like a fantasy world. It's unclear how it became this way, but one possibility is that the uncertainty around the "Age of the Gods" concept is to blame. There is no history before antiquity. In fact, the term used to describe the time before then is prehistory―quite literally a time before history existed. Thus, the Age of the Gods doesn't have a history to look back on. If it did, it wouldn't be the Age of the Gods; it would be antiquity. Perhaps this world functions similarly to Gensokyo, in that it is an amalgamation of the lost interpretations of the Age of the Gods. Gods and hermits might not be what you think. The belief in and understanding of gods and hermits is essentially natural philosophy. Taoism, the social philosophies of Laozi and Zhuang Zhou, and ancient spells all evolved from that. These things gave a system and structure to formless rules and concepts, and the experts in these fields were known as fangshi (masters of the way). They were respected and revered in much the same way as the great philosophers of the West who lived during the same era. The rulers of the time sought to use the fangshis' knowledge to improve the security and stability of their kingdoms and divine the secrets of immortality. Taoism can be many things to many people: for those who seek logical innovation, it is science; for those who seek salvation, it is faith; for those who seek peace in their everyday lives, it is wisdom; and for those who seek greater heights, it is art, a sport, and a game. However, Taoism is also a scholarly pursuit, making it far too difficult for the ordinary layman to grasp. This problem was solved by creating easy-to-understand icons: personified gods and hermits who answer prayers and manage the world from their seats up high in Heaven. There is also feng shui, a specialized discipline of Taoism used to manage people and solve political problems, particularly in city planning and the design of new buildings and structures. The people of this divine hermit world are unique. Everyone interprets the cosmos and its laws through the lens of Taoism, so what they consider to be normal or strange is completely different. The ultimate goal of Taoism is to become one with the cosmos. Everyone has their own idea of how to achieve this: some think they can find the answers through research, some think they can ascend through training, others believe they need to literally merge their physical self with the cosmos, and others think this means they have to visit other planets. This is why the denizens of this world are relatively easy to summon to other parallel worlds. Unlike the people of the B-Type Universes, who actively travel to other worlds with their abilities, their method of interworld travel is passive. This Futo has probably been summoned to other worlds before, and if she hasn't, she will in the future. For reasons as yet unknown, some people who are summoned to parallel worlds never return, but that doesn't seem to concern the denizens of this world. They interpret it as simply a copy of their spirit not returning, and the spirit does not diminish even when split. There are also examples of "partial summons," where instead of an individual being summoned to another world, only a portion of their spirit or ability is summoned. It still isn't known whether it's possible to effectively summon someone by partially summoning all their parts. However, it seems there might be two different types of summonings that are fundamentally different: one that summons bunrei (a copy of their spirit) and one that transports their entire being to another world.

Attacks

Arrow of Heaven

The Spread Shot of Mononobe no Futo from the divine hermit world (a Touhou LW original). She attacks with a divine weapon. The youkai strategist of Usa said she felt a shift of power. Yamato has diplomatic relations with not just Usa, but all the other kingdoms in the land of Wa. There's Himuka, Tsushima, Iki, Matsura, Ito, Fumi, Tsuma, Izumo, Taniha, Fuji, Koshi, Hitakami, Shinanu, and many more. Sometimes, they fight, but Yamato, especially its Ikaruga Institute, desires peace.

Furu no Koto

The Focus Shot of Mononobe no Futo from the divine hermit world (a Touhou LW original). She recites a divine chant. The Ikaruga Institute succeeded the super bumin's Mibube Institute, and its purpose is to govern the kingdom of Yamato. Super bumin refers to the leaders of powerful clans of bumin, as well as the esteemed guests from overseas who became bumin and act as their advisors. The secret to good governance is to show the people a good future. And to achieve that, you must strive to make every decision the best it can be. This means you need to have a hand in everything. This is the ideal form of government envisioned by Toyosatomimi no Miko, one of Yamato's princes, and it is why the Ikaruga Institute governs almost everything in the kingdom.

Bow Sign: Star Dragon Bow

A Spell Card of Mononobe no Futo from the divine hermit world. She attacks with a bow named after a dragon that soars across the heavens. There were unexplainable shifts in power, even though power should be preserved, balanced, and symmetrical. For the longest time, no one could figure out what caused this disturbance. It was known that power travels through the great meridian network that connects the cosmos, but trying to track it using only vague, qualitative data was impossible. What was needed was the development of an arithmetic system based on yin and yang and the evolution of Taoist philosophies derived from it. Thanks to the Ikaruga Institute's many years of education and research, they discovered that the shifts in power were caused by people being unintentionally summoned to other worlds. They still had much more to learn, but this was an astounding accomplishment, perhaps only replicable by the Ministry of Onmyoudou that existed in other worlds where history followed its proper course. Incidentally, the one leading this research within the Ikaruga Institute is none other than Mononobe no Futo.

Saint Girl: Oomonoimi's Banquet

A Spell Card of Mononobe no Futo from the divine hermit world. She prepares a banquet for the former Sun god. Futo is burdened with so many duties because her clan's shamanistic rituals, which honored the former gods, meshed so unexpectedly well with Taoist teachings. This is simply how the universe works, and it is definitely not a plot by one of the factions within Yamato that bears a grudge against the Ikaruga Institute. These teachings are based on observations of nature, just like the land of Wa's faith in their old gods. The Ikaruga Institute was the first to adopt them, study them, and make them their own. The Mononobe clan was already in charge of war, maritime trade, divination (based on arithmetic and astronomy), compiling history, and food management, but with these teachings, their hold on them was strengthened and expanded.

Original Three Sacred Treasures

The Last Word of Mononobe no Futo from the divine hermit world (a Touhou LW original). She celebrates and exalts the new child of the gods. This world's Futo has also died and been reborn as a hermit. This world's Miko is the same, and Tojiko, unable to escape her fate, also became a ghost. The child of the gods, born in a stable, died, then came back to life. This miracle would ensure that Miko's kingdom would become a kingdom of the gods. Futo's plan, as a native of the old kingdom, was to relinquish her land to the new ruler and usher in a new Sun god to replace the old one. In effect, she was creating history. However, she did not expect to revive so soon. She thought they'd awaken in the far future, at least a thousand years later. Perhaps that is simply how much time it was supposed to take, as long as a temple wasn't built atop their mausoleum. Or maybe Miko only cared about getting her hermit upgrades and was happy with a quick, three-day resurrection. If the latter were true, it wouldn't bother Futo in the slightest. Futo assumed that Miko was revived and turned into a hermit thanks to the Furu no Koto, a divine chant said to be able to revive the deceased, and that the power of the Eternal Night had nothing to do with it... But she didn't care enough to check.
