Minamitsu Murasa is a ship phantom who was saved by Byakuren Hijiri. She used to cause maritime accidents as an evil spirit, but that side of her is gradually fading away along with her lingering resentment. However, though she tries to keep the number of victims minimal, she still feels the urge to sink ships. This could be considered an inevitable result of her being a ship phantom. The latest vessel in her sights belongs to a shinigami, but sinking it won't be easy.
Komachi Onozuka is the ferrywoman of the Sanzu River. With a laidback attitude, she is perpetually slacking off her duties and loves listening to the life stories of the phantoms that board her ferry. This makes her quite different from the typical image of a shinigami. Komachi is used to dealing with phantoms, but on this occasion, she found herself face-to-face with Gensokyo's ship phantom. It seems she's in for a rough ride.
It all started with a minor dispute on the Sanzu River, which Minamitsu and Komachi decided to settle at the Easter festival. Wanting to dress correctly for the occasion, they even had special outfits made.
"You stand in the presence of Captain Murasa!" declared Minamitsu proudly as she appeared before Komachi.
With a smirk, Komachi replied, "This is no more than a coincidence, but I also went with a Western look."
Despite being in the midst of a fierce conflict, they both seemed to be enjoying themselves.
Sanzu River Egg Hunt
On one side stood the ship phantom captain, and on the other, a shinigami wielding a deadly scythe. Dressed in outfits that clearly defined their roles and territories, Komachi and Minamitsu clashed on the Sanzu River. With sparks flying each time their weapons collided, Komachi posed a question.
"If you really are a captain, wouldn't it be better to set sail for the vast ocean instead of cowering in that little boat?"
Minamitsu countered with a smirk. "Are you telling me to leave Gensokyo?"
For a moment, there was silence. Then, Komachi muttered under her breath, "Hm, I guess I wouldn't want that."
"Luckily for me, I'm the only one on this vessel! That means I can do exactly as I please!" shouted Minamitsu. And as she charged forward, she added, "I stay in this 'little boat' out of pride!"
As Komachi blocked the attack with her great scythe, a rare sharpness crept into her voice. "Pride, huh? Are you willing to hold onto it even if it means losing your head?" Her words carried extraordinary weight, likely because, as a shinigami, she stands at the boundary between life and death.
"Unlike you, I'm part of a larger organization," Komachi continued. "If I'm ordered to do so, I'll wield this scythe as a true shinigami―" Before she could finish, Minamitsu cut her off.
"I'm sure you'd just ignore that order and slack off, though." Minamitsu and Komachi both chuckled. Then, with smiles still on their faces, their anchor and scythe collided once more.
