This Sanae Kochiya is from a world where an incident centered on ownership became prolonged. On her back, she bears a pair of beautiful, enormous wings.
"It was around back then that these wings started growing. They were tiny at first, but now they're huge! And I've become super powerful!"
One day, Sanae decided to try on a bunny outfit. Inspired by the design, she figured she'd try hopping around like one, too. At first, just bouncing up and down was more than enough fun. But before long, she got bored and started thinking what it'd be like to leap all the way up into the sky. Overflowing with spiritual power, she decided to see just how high she could go.
And with that, she spread her great wings and took off. At first, she was gripped by a fear of heights, but she soon got used to it. She flew and flew, keeping her altitude steady. Before long, she was overcome by a peculiar feeling. Soaring that high, high enough to brush the clouds, she felt almost... godlike. Not like one of the specialized gods she was familiar with. More like the kind of generalized god she had seen in textbooks.
As she flew through the sky, Sanae looked down at the world below. She saw Hakurei Shrine, the Human Village, the Youkai Mountain, and even Moriya Shrine. Everything seemed so small. Gazing down at the shrunken world beneath her, Sanae started to wonder...
"Does Reimu always see things like this? ...No, she probably doesn't fly this high. But what about Lady Kanako and Lady Suwako? Back when we lived in the outside world, did they ever soar through the skies like this, looking down on the world below?"
High above the outside world's skies, the view looking down must have been completely different from Gensokyo. Row upon row of towering buildings, streets lit up at night by artificial light. Different but with its own charm.
She wondered what it felt like for the two of them, looking down at a world like that. It was a strange feeling―like hearing your parents talk about the city they lived in when they were young, and picturing the lives they led before you were even born.
Sanae made up her mind. "When I get back down, I'll ask them about it."
She was closer to being a god than ever before. That's why she wanted to know more about what the gods Kanako and Suwako had seen in the past.
