Calm Comes in Ink

Mentioned Characters: Satori, Koishi, Orin
Story
Satori Komeiji is a satori youkai who resides in the Palace of the Earth Spirits. She's the highest authority when it comes to handling vengeful spirits. Most days, she remains secluded in the palace, either reading quietly in her room or writing books of her own. But today was different. Satori was sprawled out on the floor, completely defeated by the irresistible comfort of underfloor heating.

Koishi Komeiji is Satori's younger sister and fellow satori youkai. But unlike her sister, she chose to close off her mind, and now can't read anyone else's. Today, she lay beside her dozing sister with a sweet smile on her face… and a colored pen poised for mischief.

Satori and Koishi lay comfortably on the floor, enjoying a rare moment of peace together. A surprising sight, considering the chaos that had unfolded just earlier. That day, the Underworld had been in an uproar, with the vengeful spirits running wild. What began as a small disagreement quickly escalated into a full-blown brawl between groups. Even Orin couldn't keep things in check, leaving Satori to handle the situation herself, racing around to calm the spirits. Her efforts eventually paid off, and somehow, peace was restored.

Completely worn out, Satori collapsed onto the floor of the Palace of the Earth Spirits. She was utterly exhausted, especially mentally. She'd pushed herself too far, reading too many minds. Reading the minds of vengeful spirits was never pleasant for Satori. There was nothing calming or insightful about it, just an endless stream of pain, hatred, and bitterness. As those harsh emotions echoed in her mind, she quietly closed her eyes. After a while, Satori awoke to find her little sister Koishi next to her with colored pen in hand and a mischievous grin on her face. Something felt off. She reached up to touch her cheek, only to find ink on her fingers. That's when she finally realized that Koishi had been doodling on her face while she slept.

"Sooooorryyy! You were sleeping in such a weird spot, I just couldn't help myself!" "Gosh, Koishi..." Satori sighed, half scolding Koishi while trying to assess the damage. She glanced around, hoping to find a mirror. That's when it hit her that if it had been anyone else, she could have simply read their mind to see exactly what had been drawn. But that trick didn't work on Koishi. After spending all day diving into the minds of vengeful spirits, Satori now found herself in a situation where she had to handle things the same way as those who couldn't read minds. Oddly enough, that brought her a sense of peace. Although one thought still nagged at her. "I really hope this stuff comes off with just a bit of soap and water."
