Satori Komeiji resides in the buried city and is the Queen of the Underworld. She can read minds because she is a satori youkai. Born from people's fear of others glimpsing their inner thoughts, she is an ancient being whose origins trace back to the dawn of humanity. She dreams of one day tearing down the ceiling of the Underworld and making the entire world a part of her domain.
Remilia Scarlet is the vampire mistress of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Her fate has been distorted, and she is now the only devil left in her world. With aspirations of being feared by the masses, she aims to become a great demon overlord and rule over not just Gensokyo, but also Makai, Hell, the Moon, and even the outside world.
Fate is generally thought of as a force beyond human control that grants happiness or misfortune. Yet even those beyond humanity, be they youkai or devils, cannot escape its influence. Fate can alter the way you live and even transform your appearance. It can even force an unwanted meeting between a youkai and a devil who were never meant to cross paths.
"...So, you actually showed up instead of running away. Impressive," said Remilia patronizingly.
"I must say, you seem a little flustered," taunted Satori.
"I'll admit I'm surprised. I remember you being..."
"A little taller?! How dare you! You're not exactly a giant yourself!"
"I didn't say that. It was YOU who read my mind. Besides, just because I can't reach the top shelf anymore doesn't mean I've gotten weaker!" shouted Remilia, before pausing to take a breath. "For both our sakes, maybe we should stop talking about size."
"...Agreed."
After a brief silence, Satori asked, "How's your little sister? I don't see her around today."
"She's doing well, thanks. How about your Koishi?"
"She's great. But right now... I think you should be more concerned with your own well-being!"
Satori struck first. But Remilia, still seated, flew up into the air to dodge the barrage. The very next moment, spear-like lasers shot forth from her throne. Satori read her thoughts and narrowly avoided the attack. What followed was a relentless exchange of bullets. Almost half a day had passed before the firing stopped.
"You seem a little out of breath. If you like, we can take a break?"
"That's funny coming from you, considering you're wishing you could go home and change outfits right now."
"Fine. Out of respect for your effort, I'll offer you a truce," Remilia replied, cheeks tinged red.
"How kind of you. I was starting to get a little thirsty," said Satori smugly, though the truth was that she'd nearly reached her limit too.
Thus, their battle came to an end. A rematch, however, is no doubt lurking just over the horizon.
