Expressionless Gadget-User

Mentioned Characters: Yuyuko, Lunasa, Merlin, Lyrica, Kokoro, Raiko
Story
Hata no Kokoro is a gadget user operating in the Underground Waste Ward. Her task is to stealthily hack into anything connected to the Psycho-Net. Since receiving orders from Yuyuko, she has also worked as a VJ (video jockey). While searching for Easter eggs rumored to lead to other worlds, she practiced expressing what felt like a never-ending list of emotions.

"Haha, that's hilarious," said Hata no Kokoro, watching a funny video with a completely straight face. Any hope of cracking a smile faded completely when a pop-up appeared at the top of the screen. "Huh? A mission from Miss Yuyuko." It wasn't uncommon for her to receive video-related missions from Yuyuko. But this one was unlike anything she had ever seen. "She wants me to VJ at Raiko's concert next week!"

With Kokoro only having had a brief meeting with Raiko, the day of the concert arrived. She didn't quite grasp the details of her mission, but once she saw the venue's equipment, she instinctively knew what footage she should play to hype up the crowd. After the show, Raiko rushed over to Kokoro, grinning from ear to ear. "Your VJing was totally on point again today!" "I know, right?" Kokoro gave a straight-faced peace sign, but she still had doubts. She remained in deep, expressionless thought until a notification beep snapped her back to the present. It was a new mission from Yuyuko.

"Create some emotional visuals at the Prismriver Sisters concert." That was all the message said. Kokoro didn't really know what emotional meant, but she went all out as a VJ to help the musical sisters pull off an incredible show. After the show, Lyrica greeted Kokoro with a beaming smile. "Wayda go, Kokoro! The crowd had a blast thanks to you!" Kokoro took a deep breath and finally asked the question that had been bugging her. "Why, though?" Lyrica squinted at Kokoro. But realizing the gadget-user was serious, she smiled. "Because during Lunasa's gloomy parts, you played dark, complex visuals. And during Merlin's manic parts, you switched to brighter, more intense visuals. You synced up with the crowd's emotions perfectly." "I synced up... with their emotions?"

Tucked away in a corner of the Underground Waste Ward, Kokoro muttered to herself as she operated her gadgets. "Waka is a little sad. And Uba is a little happy." She could easily read the expressions of her drone companions. She knew exactly what kind of visuals to use during a concert to sync up with the crowd. But when it came to her own emotions, she still had no clue. "Semimaru, do you understand my emotions?" Panic plastered Semimaru's digital face. It was actually better at expressing itself than Kokoro. Luckily for the airborne gadget, a notification beep rang out. Kokoro had received a message from Merlin. "Thanks for helping out at the concert. Thanks to you, it was a huge success!" Kokoro scanned the display, and a warmth spread through her chest. Was this happiness? It wasn't much, but she felt like she was one step closer to understanding her own emotions.
