Reimu Hakurei, codename: Lunar War Shaman, was training at the Lunar Base. Due to an unexplained incident, her original ability was sealed away, but with the wisdom of Yukari Yakumo, a Sage of Gensokyo, equipment was created that allows her to fight even in the Moon's unique environment. The sturdy suit protecting her shoulders is an equipable shikigami. Her most commonly used firearms are Chen, the large-caliber handgun, and Ran, an automatic rifle.
Marisa Kirisame, codename: Lunar War Enchanter, was training at the Lunar Base. Due to an unexplained incident, her original ability was sealed away, but with the wisdom of her magician friends Alice Margatroid and Narumi Yatadera, equipment was created that allows her to fight even in the Moon's unique environment. Supposedly, some of her weapons draw on Patchouli Knowledge's expertise and experience regarding rockets.
In a dimly lit command room, the lunar warriors were once again preparing themselves for battle.
"You're late."
"Yeah, had some trouble adjusting my mini hakkero."
"Your mini hakkero? You can use it now?"
"Technically, it's called the mini hakkero multi-purpose launcher. Alice and Narumi made it together. It's meant to boost the hakkero's depleted firepower and―"
"As always, I have no idea what you're talking about. But if it works, then great."
"Hey, it was you who asked."
Brushing off Marisa's overly technical explanation, Reimu headed for the corner of the command room. When Marisa saw what was there, her eyes lit up.
"What the heck is this?" asked Marisa, gripping the gun-like object.
Pointing the muzzle of her own "gun" at the screen before them, Reimu explained, "It's a controller. You use it in this battle simulator to fight off bad guys."
"What bad guys? You mean, like, they show up on screen?"
"Exactly. Apparently, in another world, simulators like these were used for fun, but the enemy movements are so realistic that it should make for pretty good training."
"Huh... Sounds fun!"
With the controller in hand, Marisa gave a confident smirk. Reimu rolled her eyes at Marisa's casual attitude, but couldn't hide her smile. Aiming her controller at the Start button, she declared, "We're not stopping 'til we beat every level."
"Marisa, it's heading your way!"
"You don't have to tell me... I can see it!"
At first, Reimu and Marisa were completely out of sync and saw the words "Game Over" more times than they could count. But after hours of training, they had reached the final stage without losing a single life.
"Hey, what's this Score thing?" asked Marisa as the final stage loaded.
Holding her gun at the ready, Reimu glanced at the right side of the screen. "Beats me. I'm guessing the higher it is, the better."
When the final stage began, neither spoke another word, both focusing entirely on the task at hand. With perfect teamwork, they brought down the last boss, and their score appeared on screen.
"That's pretty high... right?"
"Dunno. I'm just glad we finally beat the game!"
It was all smiles in the command room.
