Story
Everyone in Gensokyo was hard at work preparing for the anniversary. Meanwhile, at the Divine Spirit Mausoleum, Mononobe no Futo and Soga no Tojiko were hatching a secret plan, being careful not to alert Toyosatomimi no Miko, who was busy writing her ceremonial speech. "Once Lady Taishi returneth from the ceremony, we must serve her a feast here at the mausoleum too, right?" "Well, her speech is a super big deal. It'd be wrong not to show our appreciation." "In that case, what shall we serve her?"

"Don't ask me. I'm a ghost! You're the one with a physical body. You should know more about food than me!" "Verily, I know the dishes I like to eat, but when it comes to a feast worthy of Lady Taishi... that's an entirely different tale." "I suppose you're right..." "My, what are you two arguing about?" "Yeah, whatcha arguing about?" Interrupting Futo and Tojiko's bickering was none other than Seiga and Yoshika. "We were just tryna decide what kind of feast to serve Lady Taishi." "In that case… you'd best avoid kinkunshoku."

"What's... kinkunshoku?" "It's a collection of foods Taoists are forbidden from eating, like scallions, chives, and garlic." "Wait, scallions are forbidden?!" exclaimed Futo. "Why? Have you been eating them?" "Well... yes. At least, I think I have..." Unphased by Futo's clear distress, Seiga continued, "I suggest you avoid all kinkunshoku while using as many auspicious ingredients as possible." After thanking Seiga for her advice, Futo saw her and Yoshika off. "So... what are we going to do, Tojiko?" "Seiga's a hermit. We'd better listen to her." "Yes, but that means we are no closer to deciding what to serve..." Still umming and ahhing, the troubled pair wandered all the way to a familiar temple.

"Hm? It's rare to see you two here!" waved Kyouko, who was busy cleaning the temple grounds as usual. "Is something the matter?" "Nay, not exactly..." "We were just passing by, is all." For Futo and Tojiko, the folks living at Myouren Temple were rivals. Even if they were in a bind, this wasn't the place where they wanted to find help. "If you say so," shrugged Kyouko. "But it sure looked like you were having trouble with something." "Thanks, but really, we're fine―" "Hohoho, sounds like you've been tricked by that wicked hermit." Startled, Tojiko and Futo turned to see a certain youkai who lived at the temple. "Mamizou? What are you doing here?!" "And what dost thou mean, tricked?" With a smug grin, she declared, "Seiga told you about kinkunshoku, right? Those ingredients are only banned in day-to-day cuisine. Lately, even the most devout Taoists gobble that stuff down on special occasions... like, say, an anniversary."

"Is that so?" "It sure is. Toss a lucky dragon garnish on top, and you're free to serve whatever you like." After thanking Mamizou for her unexpected but much-appreciated advice, Futo and Tojiko hurried back to the Divine Spirit Mausoleum. "We have precious little time. Let's make something ourselves!" "At the mausoleum? How?" "'Tis scarcely used anymore, but there is a kitchen perfect for our needs. 'Twas once used for the preparation of celebratory meals." Tojiko set her surprise aside and got to work alongside Futo, who immediately began preparing a stir-fry loaded with scallions, chives, garlic, and meat. Before long, the kitchen was filled with a rich, savory aroma. "I know Mamizou said we could use all that stuff, but do you really need to put in THAT much?" "Have faith! When Lady Taishi smelleth this, she shall surely rejoice!" Naturally, Miko was listening in on her disciples' conversation, so while the surprise was ruined, it seems she still very much enjoyed the feast they prepared for her.
