Moonlit Brushstrokes

Mentioned Characters: Eirin, Kaguya
Story
Kaguya Houraisan is an extraterrestrial with a mysterious ability. She was once a Lunar princess but now lives on Earth, where today, she had prepared herself a brush, some ink, and a roll of paper. Putting the contents of one's mind onto paper is nothing short of an act of divine creation. You grind the earth into ink, dip your brush into the ocean, and create the world. Kaguya's own little world began to take shape as the black ink from her brush sank into the blank white scroll before her.

Eirin Yagokoro is an incredibly intelligent extraterrestrial. She spent her time on the Moon contributing to Lunar society with her intellect, but due to complex circumstances, she relocated to Earth. Now, she lives in Eientei with Kaguya and works as a doctor to serve the people of Gensokyo. Despite it being late at night, it seems she's brought the former Lunar princess some roasted green tea.

The faint rustling of bamboo leaves could be heard outside as the moonlight shone down on Kaguya and Eirin. "It's rare for you to be studying," commented Eirin, to which Kaguya shook her head and pointed down at the tip of her brush. One look was all it took for Eirin to realize Kaguya, in fact, wasn't studying. "There was actually something I wanted to ask you," said Kaguya. "Ask away," replied Eirin with a soft smile, having already figured out what was on Kaguya's mind. "Well, the thing is..." began Kaguya.

"...I really think you need to take a little more care." "Are you serious?" "Yes. And if you don't find ways of adding in contrast, the humans won't be impressed." Kaguya never concerned herself with the details, which often led to misunderstandings. Eirin was trying to explain that to her in a roundabout way, but even if she herself had all the answers, she knew Kaguya wouldn't accept them. Kaguya made brush stroke after brush stroke, furrowed her brow at each piece of advice from Eirin, and occasionally took a break to doodle near the edges. She was thoroughly enjoying her night.

Eirin had known Kaguya a long time and, from the very beginning, had decided to fully support her in her endeavors. At one point, Eirin even told her, "You should spend your time in whatever way you prefer." Now that they live in the same limited time as everybody else, it's important that they set goals for themselves. "I think the humans will like this!" exclaimed Kaguya. "Yes, I think so too," smiled Eirin, pleased to see Kaguya so ecstatic. Everyone needs goals. That goes for humans and extraterrestrials alike.
