More Legs, More Problems

Story
Yamame Kurodani is a tsuchigumo youkai who lives in a dark cave and has the ability to manipulate illness. It's said that if you meet a tsuchigumo, there's a high chance you'll be struck down by an inexplicable fever. Yamame is cheerful and friendly, but she knows her kind are feared by humans, so she rarely visits their village. However, when she gets wind of a festival, she can't seem to stay away.

Momoyo Himemushi is an oomukade youkai with the ability to eat dragons. She lives at the foot of the Youkai Mountain and with her powerful venom, she is feared by humans and youkai alike. She's extremely athletic thanks to all the mining she does. She's a total glutton, always on the hunt for something delicious to eat, but somehow manages to maintain a slender figure. She's also a surprisingly good leader and can be quite kind.

More Legs, More Problems It was break time at the latest Gensokyo Sports Festival. In the locker room, Yamame Kurodani wasn't acting like her usual bubbly self. With a sigh, she said, "Doing a full lap around the lake by myself sure sucked..." Ordinarily, Yamame keeps herself to herself so as not to cause any trouble, but whenever she finds out there's a festival going on, she can't help but crawl out from the Underworld cave she calls home. When she heard there was going to be a relay race around the Misty Lake, she signed up despite knowing the kappa wouldn't be pleased. However, just before the race started, Nitori Kawashiro, the race official, appeared before her and informed her that every pair of legs counted as an individual runner. "Everyone else got to run in teams of four," she grumbled to herself. Just then, she heard a voice she didn't expect.

Cheering Saga: Race to the Truth "Hey, eat this," said Momoyo, the oomukade youkai, holding out an onigiri. "I got it from Megumu." Yamame gulped in shock. She had heard rumors about Momoyo in the Underworld. Apparently, she was the manager of an entire mine, and there were legends saying she had tasted dragon flesh. "C'mon. You must be hungry after all that running." Taken aback by Momoyo's unexpected kindness, Yamame replied absentmindedly, "You ran just as far..." Nitori's "two legs equal one runner" rule had applied to Momoyo, but without so much as a flinch, she ran the whole course alone and finished first. "Yep. I felt pretty lucky having so many legs." "You did?"

"Sure. It meant I got to run more. And that gave me more chances to go wild." Momoyo went on to explain that she signed up for the relay the instant Nitori got done explaining the rules. "W-Wow..." replied a stunned Yamame. "But how were you able to run that fast for so long?" "'Cause of all the work I do at the mine." "What mine?" "The mine I manage." "D-Do you think I could work there, too? I live in the Underworld, and, well, I know I'm not the strongest, but..." "Don't sweat it. All you need's the right attitude. Welcome to the team." Yamame's eyes twinkled as she realized just how cool Momoyo was. Having trained together at the mine, Momoyo and Yamame teamed up during the next event to win the three-legged race, setting a new Gensokyo record in the process. But that's a story for another time.
