Portrait of a Girl

Mentioned Characters: Reimu, Marisa, Remilia, Flandre
Story
Flandre Scarlet is the younger sister of Remilia Scarlet, the devil of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. She's a vampire with the ability to destroy literally anything. Until she met Reimu and the others, she had never ventured outside. Which means she spent 495 years indoors.

Consumed by madness. That's often how Flandre's portrayed. No youkai is "ordinary," least of all the ones found around Reimu and Marisa, but Flandre is on another level. After all, no one in their right mind could enjoy battles of bullets.

The Girl in the Locked Room Flandre spent centuries in her room. To anyone else, it might seem like a prison cell. In fact, there were times it was used as one. But for Flandre, that room was her entire world. Everything beyond it was an extra realm―an outer world overflowing with colors and sights she'd never seen before.

A Youkai's Sense of Beauty Youkai are beings unlike humans. They live far longer, wield immense power, inspire fear, and often seem insane. They've also been able to preserve a kind of "spiritual culture" that humanity has been steadily abandoning. If they differ so greatly from humans, then surely their sense of beauty and art must differ as well. What do they find beautiful? What stirs their emotions? Is it only the grotesque and demonic, the eerie and deranged? To some extent, perhaps. But they themselves often appear as beautiful young girls. That's proof that there's more to this story.

One. Then another. Flandre gathers paintings, one by one. Every figure she sees in them feels strangely familiar. "Hehe, I see... Oh, so that's what you did. And then? What happened next? ...Huh, you don't say." She's not alone in her closed-off world. She has plenty of company. As many friends as she likes, for as long as she likes. "Now then, it's time for tea."
