Report #69

Story
This photo shows the old city streets of Former Hell, found in the Underworld. With buildings crammed together, it's worthy of being called a capital. It's believed that most of the shunned Underworld youkai and the vengeful spirits left behind during Hell's relocation now live here.

Excerpt from R's report: "Ah, I know this place. It's a hot spring town. Even Professor Lidenbrock would be surprised to find a tourist spot like this at the end of an Underworld expedition. The shops seem open and ready for business, like a clerk could pop out at any moment... But there's no one here. It's a town frozen in time."

Excerpt from M's report: "What is this place? It feels hot and cold at the same time. The vibes are cheerful, yet I sense something non-human lurking in every shadow. It's vivid, like the memory of a nightmare. And being in the Underworld... The extended isolation, the damp air... I feel like I've been somewhere like this before."

Excerpt from R's report: "People used to think about the existence of subterranean beings. If the Earth is a sphere, then it must have an internal structure... As planetary science developed to study the Earth, so did occultism. Occultism is a kind of fantasy. It only came to be after scientific progress exploded, like a Cambrian monster of the mind. It can't exist in places untouched by the light of science, nor in places where science has answered every question."

Excerpt from M's report: "It's long been believed that part of a dead person's soul sinks deep into the earth. If those are the subterranean beings, then is the Underworld a place where they wait for reincarnation? Or is it a scorching prison of eternal punishment? After all, if you don't want prisoners to escape, making the prison comfortable is better than locking them in. This place is the ultimate panopticon."
