The set ended to roaring applause, and the members of Scarlet Devil Mansion headed backstage to their dressing room beneath the venue. As usual, lead guitarist Sakuya and drummer Patchouli had already started bickering over the performance when the girl from the crowd stepped directly into their path. "Marisa?" "What's a book thief doing here?" "I've got a favor to ask... I wanna borrow someone." "That sounds dangerous. Nothing you borrow ever comes back." "No, seriously! This time I really am just borrowing 'em." "And who exactly do you want to borrow?" "Flandre Scarlet."

For a multitude of reasons, Flandre Scarlet had her own private dressing room beneath the music club. Almost nobody ever visited it. And yet, she heard a knock on the door. The moment she saw who it was, she let out a gasp. "Marisa?" "Mind if I come in?" asked Marisa, before stepping inside and turning to face Flandre. "I'm just gonna say it straight. Flan, wanna start a band with me? Just for a little while." "You and me? In a band? ...What's gotten into you?" "I need your singing voice." "Why? All it does is destroy the voices around it. It'll destroy yours too, Marisa." "That's exactly why I want it." "Huh?" "Hey, Flan. You ever wanted to destroy a star?"

Before long, concert day had arrived. The hastily formed band, Star & Rainbow, burst onto the stage and swept the crowd into a frenzy. "Th-This is incredible...! Marisa's Star Voice is crashing up against Flan's Devil Voice, creating a melody unlike anything I've heard before... It's like a supernova!" The excited commentary came from Aya Shameimaru, the tengu reporter covering the concert for a music magazine. But her voice barely reached anyone's ears. Onstage, the two performers were completely in the moment―never had a live show made either of them feel so alive. "So, Flan? What's it feel like destroying star after star?" "I dunno... but I wanna destroy even more!" Stars shattered. Rainbows spread across the sky. And new stars were born.
