Minoriko Aki is the goddess who brings abundance to Gensokyo. No one's quite sure why, but divine spirits kept gathering around her and she was practically glowing with harvest power. She channeled all that energy into running a stall near the entrance of the New Lunar Capital Expo, serving up heavenly sweet potato dishes.
"Hmm, still no worshipers, huh..."
Minoriko Aki looked worried. Thanks to the blessings from the mysterious divine spirits, she had taken on a more abundant and radiant form than before. People definitely noticed her now, but that didn't mean they were worshipers. It was more: "Whoa, look at that fancy harvest lady!" Not: "Oh great goddess, bless my crops!"
"There's gotta be a better way to get worshipers. Something more my style." Grumbling softly, she strolled along the riverbank in search of inspiration. That's when she spotted something. Something that just might be the answer.
"Sweet potaaatoes! Hot and fresh! Come and get 'em!"
Minoriko Aki called out loudly from the roadside, doing her best to sound cheerful. Earlier that day, she'd spotted Nitori at the riverbank, casually selling cucumbers. It was nothing out of the blue to see Nitori selling something at a festival, but what caught Minoriko's attention wasn't the cucumbers. It was the fact that people were thanking Nitori, even praising her, simply for selling something yummy.
"This is it!" she thought. She concluded this is how she could get people to worship her, and with zero hesitation, she bought a full Stall Starter Set from Nitori and opened up shop on the spot.
"Hmph, this isn't going quite how I imagined..." she groaned. Turns out, launching a baked sweet potato stand wasn't an instant worshiper-generator. As she sulked, her sister Shizuha spun dramatically onto the scene like a falling maple leaf.
"If you're really set on selling something..." Shizuha said with a smirk, "I know just the place for it."
New Lunar Capital Expo! Vol. 2
"Get your sweet potato pies! They're packed with the goodness of autumn!" Minoriko called out with gusto.
The place Shizuha was talking about was the New Lunar Capital Expo. Shizuha, as it turned out, submitted her art to the expo every year and had even built a surprisingly loyal fanbase. Minoriko might not have known the first thing about art, but she had heard the event drew massive crowds. So, she made her move. She opened up a food stall featuring her signature creation―the Overflowing, Overabundant Sweet Potato Pie.
"Whoa, is that... a sweet potato pie?!"
"Never seen that before. Let's try it!"
The orders rolled in. Helped along by the sheer novelty of the dish, Minoriko's one-of-a-kind pie was a smash hit.
"This is selling like crazy," Shizuha said, popping in from her nearby booth to help.
"But at this rate, I'm gonna run out of pies!" Minoriko cried, half in joy, half in panic.
Just then, a familiar voice called out.
"Need a hand with that?" said Nitori with a grin on her face.
"Fresh out of the oven! Come get your sweet potato pies made by the goddess of harvests!"
Minoriko's cheerful call echoed as a wave of hungry customers lined up to grab her signature Overflowing, Overabundant Sweet Potato Pie. The stall had nearly sold out earlier, but thanks to Nitori's Ultrasonic Food-Warmer Deluxe, Minoriko was back in business with fresh pies rolling out fast.
"This is it! People are finally going to start worshiping me!" she grinned, utterly pleased with herself. But then she heard their conversations.
"This pie's amazing!"
"Can't believe I've never had one of these!"
"...Wait. Why aren't they talking about me?" she wondered. To her horror, all the chatter was about the pie. Not about her. Not about the goddess who made it. No one was even mentioning her name. Panic setting in, Minoriko decided it was time to change her strategy.
"HELLO! I'm the goddess of harvests!" she shouted, waving both arms in the air.
"These pies were made by ME! A goddess! If you eat one, you gotta worship me, OK?!"
"The sales pitch is a little extra..."
"But the pie's divine, so I'll let it slide."
And so, the struggle to turn pie-lovers into worshipers continued. Minoriko's worshiper-hunting campaign wasn't over yet.
