Cirno, the self-proclaimed strongest fairy around, had taken off her armor that represented her bravery. Though it looked tougher than any metal, it was actually highly compressed ice, something she could freely equip or remove at will.
She seemed to be taking a break. Beside her sat a doll of her best friend, and next to it was a teddy bear, just there to add a bit of cheer.
A fearless grin played at her lips. Her eyes burned with a fighting spirit. She was locked in on a bright red, square object in front of her. This wasn't break time, it was training time.
A few days ago, Daiyousei dropped by Cirno's place like she always did, but something about Cirno felt different.
The Cirno who greeted her looked familiar, but not quite the same as the one she knew. For a moment, they simply stared at each other in silence. Then, Cirno spoke.
"Dai, let's play!"
The voice, the energy―it was unmistakably the Cirno she knew. And that was all she needed to hear. Smiling, Daiyousei plopped down beside her friend and joined in.
Cirno and Daiyousei each held a flat device in their hands. They had a few small buttons, and pressing them made something move on the screen embedded in the box in front of them. At first, just making it move was fun enough. ...But they soon realized, the game had winners and losers.
The screen was lit by flashing sparkly effects above the character Daiyousei had been controlling.
"...Dai, let's play again!"
"Sure!"
That simple reply was all it took to reignite Cirno's fighting spirit.
Winter Snow Festival
Before they even realized it, Cirno had already racked up more losses than she could count on both hands. The results screen flashed over and over. Each time, another win for Daiyousei, another loss for Cirno. Daiyousei smiled through it, but she was starting to break into a cold sweat. Cirno was always easy to read. Or maybe it was just that Daiyousei knew her so well. Either way, Daiyousei was pretty sure even Cirno had to get annoyed after losing this many times... She nervously peeked at her face, but Cirno's expression caught her off guard.
"You're amazing, Dai! My best friend and my greatest rival!"
And so began the real training.
Beside her sat a doll made in the likeness of her closest friend, Daiyousei. Cirno placed a controller in its hands. Her eyes were lit with determination. She wasn't just any fairy. She was the Brave Armored Fairy.
On a break or not, win or lose, it didn't matter. To Cirno, courage was a way of life. She didn't fear failure. As long as she didn't give up, she hadn't lost. As long as she kept going, she was still in the fight. Sure, getting this fired up over a game might seem a bit much, but that was part of her charm. Maybe that's what made her the strongest.
After scoring a streak of wins against the Daiyousei doll, Cirno turned to the real Daiyousei for her next challenge.
"...Dai, let's have a rematch!"
"Sure!"
The battle was far from over.
