Hatate Himekaidou is a thoughtography reporter who silently watches over the Easter festivals. Wearing a black bunny suit matching the color of her own wings, she radiates an eerie allure and blends seamlessly into the night sky.
Excerpt From a Conversation:
"It's rare for you to attend this kind of festival, Miss Hatate."
"Is it? I suppose I'm mainly here for work... but I don't mind the crowds. Besides, I have to write an article about the festival, and with thoughtography banned, I had no choice but to come in person."
Aya Shameimaru is a newspaper reporter who observes the Easter festivals from the skies. The striking contrast between her white bunny outfit and her jet-black wings accentuates her captivating beauty.
Excerpt From an Interview:
"So, do you like the Easter festivals?"
"Hmm... Yes, I think I do. There's never a dull moment, which makes finding material for my articles a piece of cake... Speaking of which, I kinda wanna go find some big scoops. Mind if we cut the interview short?"
Among youkai, tengu are a rarity in how they live in a society similar in structure to many human ones. They take their role as Gensokyo's observers extremely seriously, and using their wings, they soar through the skies like swift winds, uniting as one to maintain a neutral position in the goings on. That is the true nature of tengu.
Tengu are by no means weak. On the contrary, their physical prowess and mastery of youjutsu place them a cut above most youkai in Gensokyo. Their graceful, wind-like movements have earned them the nickname "wind demons," and those who hone their skills may one day ascend to become Tenma.
And yet, if you look closely, you can see a slight ninja influence in their outfits. Come to think of it, wasn't there once a band of ninjas known as the Fuuma clan, aka the wind demons? Perhaps there's some connection between them...
When Worlds Collide
In this world, the tengu use their neutral position to serve as both judges and organizers for Easter festivals. On this night, Aya and Hatate were out checking on the next Easter festival site, which lay in a section of the Youkai Mountain managed by the tengu themselves.
Black feathers fluttered down through the breaks in the clouds.
"Ugh, this blows. I just want to get it over with and go home."
"You and me both. I've got articles to write and deadlines fast approaching."
"That area's supposed to be off-limits anyway, so inspecting it shouldn't take long. Let's go."
"Wow, look at you, Hatate. Actually taking your job seriously for once."
"Just shut up and fly!"
The winged pair weren't expecting any trouble. But then, they spotted a flickering, ominous shadow up ahead.
"What are you? Tengu?"
Sharp fangs. Tattered skin. Their species was unclear, but one thing was certain: they weren't supposed to be there.
"Everything irritates me. I wanna destroy it all. Maybe I'll destroy you two as well. I'm tired of being worked to the―"
They never got to finish their sentence. Whoever it was, the shockwaves from Aya and Hatate's leaf fans sent it hurtling out into the night.
"Is Momiji even doing her patrols?"
"We're gonna have to report this to Lady Megumu, aren't we? Ugh, won't this night ever end?"
Tengu are known to be one of the more sociable types of youkai, but even they have their limits. Easter is a sacred festival―one that brings humans and youkai together. They won't allow anyone to interfere with it.
