Minamitsu Murasa

Minamitsu Murasa's Fantasy Rebirth Story
Murasa, I'm heeere!
Ichirin and Unzan made sure I got here safe.
Minamitsu
Good to see you, PLAYER.
Minamitsu
Steady as she goes!
Steady as she goes! ...That's a sailor greeting, right?
Minamitsu
Not exactly. It means let's keep moving forward. It's pretty uplifting, don't you think?
Minamitsu
Especially now, with the Lost Word Incident...
You're right... captain.
Minamitsu
Hehehe!
Minamitsu
With this Palanquin Ship 2.0, I'll pierce a hole in the incident's hull! I'm just finishing up my preparations.
Minamitsu
This ship's the key to our plan, and I'm in charge of it. Which, in a way, makes me the leader of this whole operation...
Minamitsu
Say hello to General Murasa!
But we need you to captain the ship...
Minamitsu
True. But a little ambition never hurt.
Minamitsu
Just looking at the Palanquin Ship 2.0 gets my heart thumping. From now on, it's the only ship for me!
I thought it was called the Neo Palanquin Ship?
I heard it was called the New Palanquin Ship?
Wasn't it the Super Palanquin Ship?
Minamitsu
Whoa, what an awesome name! Maybe we should call it that instead!
(So THIS is why the name keeps changing...)
Minamitsu
Whatever we call it, I said I'd use it to pierce a hole in the incident's hull.
Minamitsu
The only problem is I don't know where its hull is... or if it even has one.
Nothing comes to mind.
Minamitsu
Well, until we figure it out, I guess we're on standby. I better keep prepping for battle.
Minamitsu
It's not a pleasant thought, but depending on how things play out, this ship could end up being our last stronghold.
Minamitsu
I'm worried, of course... but at the same time, I'm bursting with confidence. After all, I'm a ship phantom!
Minamitsu
It's for times like these that I collected Hijiri's lost items. The ones in the outside world weren't easy to find, mind you.
Minamitsu
Anything that could be turned into a weapon has been.
Minamitsu
The ship uses a part of Myouren Temple instead of the Flying Storehouse core, but it has just as much firepower as before.
Minamitsu
In fact... it has EVEN MORE firepower!
That's what I like to hear!
Minamitsu
It's the most powerful vessel in Gensokyo. And it's mine. All mine!
Minamitsu
Mwahaha!
M-Minamitsu, you're scaring me!
Minamitsu
Oh, relax. I'm only kidding.
Minamitsu
Hang on, what are you doing here, again? I feel like you messaged ahead, but...
I came to see you about this.
Minamitsu
Oh, it's your adorable little journal.
Minamitsu
...
Minamitsu
I remember now!
Minamitsu
You wanted a fragment of the Flying Storehouse with Buddhist power still running through it... right?!
Uh-huh. I'm gonna take it to Kourindou.
I'll hold it in one hand and my journal in the other...
Then... bam!
Minamitsu
That's right. Mister Rinnosuke can combine items, can't he? Come to think of it, that's a pretty incredible ability...
Minamitsu
So after that, will you finally be able to fly?
Hmm, I doubt I'll be able to fly like all of you can...
But I should be able to float freely for a little while.
I just hope I can stay out of your way during battles.
Minamitsu
Y-You really are one of a kind!
Minamitsu
I wish Ichirin and Tojiko had your courage... Even a fraction of it would do!
Y-You're just tryna make me blush...
Minamitsu
You know... I think you have what it takes to be a sailor in this fight.
Minamitsu
A fine one at that. One who rows out to battle on her own vessel, even if just for a short while.
I-I'm not sure about that.
Minamitsu
Well I am.
Minamitsu
I think it's time I told you something. As a fellow sailor, as a ship phantom...
Minamitsu
And as the Ghost Left From the Shipwreck Accident.
Minamitsu
...There you have it. In the face of Hijiri's love, anything and everything becomes basically powerless.
So there was a massive sea battle?!
Minamitsu
Hijiri is like a ship all on her own, capable of traversing land and sea. I bet she could even fly though space!
Minamitsu
...But I'm getting distracted.
R-Right.
Minamitsu
That battle's when I first met Hijiri and saw her ship. Maybe I've told you that before, though.
Minamitsu
When she entrusted the Palanquin Ship to me, she cut the bond between me and my shipwreck.
Minamitsu
Hijiri saw into my heart and made my greatest wish come true.
Minamitsu
She saved me that day. But the fact only she could free me showed...
Minamitsu
That the bond keeping me prisoner was incredibly tight.
Minamitsu
As Murasa the ship phantom, my resentment was deeper than any ocean trench.
Minamitsu
And it spurred me to sink countless ships and drown their crew members.
...
Minamitsu
It was all such a long time ago. I know it was me who did those things, but somehow, it doesn't feel real.
Minamitsu
I've replayed them in my head too many times. Now they're all but faded.
Minamitsu
Maybe that's what it means to live so long as a youkai―to forget.
Minamitsu
But why did Murasa―
Minamitsu
Why did I have so much resentment in my heart? I should be able to explain it but I can't.
Minamitsu
I remember one thing clearly, though. Even now, it sustains me as a youkai.
Minamitsu
The cold dark of the ocean floor. The crushing weight of the abyss all around me.
Minamitsu
I'll never forget what it was like down there.
Minamitsu
It felt like... despair.
Minamitsu
Seawater gushed into my lungs as the pressure of the water above crushed my bones into dust.
Minamitsu
The light faded as I fell further from the surface. As I tried to scream, bubbles burst out and abandoned me to the depths.
Minamitsu
My body temperature dropped, never to rise again. My clothes, soaked through, weighed me down further.
Minamitsu
And all the while, death drew nearer, moment by moment. Fear took hold.
Minamitsu
...No. It was worse than fear.
Minamitsu
I knew no one could help me. I had fallen too far below the waves.
Minamitsu
My days of sailing the seas were over. They were up above, and I was down below.
Minamitsu
All hope faded and I knew only despair.
Minamitsu
Merciless, all-consuming despair.
Minamitsu
I didn't resent the passenger who shoved me below the water in an attempt to save themselves.
Minamitsu
Nor the sailor who wrenched my mouth open and tried to suck the air out of my lungs.
Minamitsu
I didn't resent those who kicked me, who pulled my hair out from its roots.
Minamitsu
I resented none of them.
Minamitsu
Instead, I resented all those above the waves who'd never known the loneliness and despair that enveloped me.
...
Minamitsu
My memories of drowning played over and over in my head, deepening my resentment.
Minamitsu
I'm sure the resentment I felt in the beginning wasn't that intense.
Minamitsu
The kind everyone feels from time to time―self-centered and short-lived.
Minamitsu
Those who sail the seas can lose their lives at the drop of a hat. But that's no surprise.
Minamitsu
And those who soar through the skies lose their lives far quicker.
Minamitsu
And since that's what you'll soon be doing, I thought I better tell you my story...
Minamitsu
That's all.
Thanks, Murasa.
Minamitsu
I feel like I've heard about these...
This is the other reason I came to see you.
The sages of Gensokyo made it just for you.
Minamitsu
Wow.
Minamitsu
That's right... My feelings from back then haven't all faded.
Hm?
Minamitsu
Haha, it's nothing. Just the past flooding back to me.
Minamitsu
Anyway, you have my gratitude. As do the sages.
You're welcome.
Minamitsu
I've told you my cautionary tale and given you a fragment of the Flying Storehouse.
Minamitsu
I'll take you wherever you need to go next. Your voyage isn't over, right?
No, not yet. And thanks.
Minamitsu
Keep at it. Your success is crucial to our strategy!
Minamitsu
It's time to set sail.
Minamitsu
Steady as she goes!

Hokkai, where Hijiri was sealed, is only one small part of Makai. Makai has its own laws of life and nature, and everything there is made of magic. Normal humans can't survive there. If you insist on going, promise me you'll go aboard my ship.
