All hope faded and I knew only despair.

I didn't resent the passenger who shoved me below the water in an attempt to save themselves.

Nor the sailor who wrenched my mouth open and tried to suck the air out of my lungs.

I didn't resent those who kicked me, who pulled my hair out from its roots.

I resented none of them.

Instead, I resented all those above the waves who'd never known the loneliness and despair that enveloped me.
