The true threats always appear when you least expect them. Detectives protect the treasure, and the phantom thieves try to steal it, but what if there was a third faction...? That would surely shake things up in Gensokyo.
"Look up!"
She made her grand entrance backlit by the full moon.
"Seija Kijin has arrived!"
Seija Kijin is an amanojaku and the leader of a secret society. She got her red-and-black outfit specially made. Its sleek design enhances her maneuverability in battle, but more importantly, it makes her look like a dark hero who administers justice under the cover of darkness. She was very particular about that when she placed the order.
"Make sure it looks cool, OK? Otherwise, there'd be no point in wearing it."
In the dead of night, the phantom thieves arrived in front of a large building. They had planned to steal the treasure inside. But, as is usually the case, it seems things wouldn't be that simple...
"How come there's so many guards? I thought this was meant to be a quick and easy heist!"
"Hmmm, what to do? We were specifically asked not to hurt anyone."
The light of the full moon shone on the phantom thieves as they discussed their options. However, they were soon interrupted by a voice calling out from above.
"Pathetic. I thought phantom thieves were meant to be good at this sort of thing."
Half hidden in the darkness, Seija was looking down on them.
The Great Riddle Heist
"Heh, you call yourself phantom thieves, but you can't even sneak past a few guards."
"Huh?! I dare you to come down here and say that! I don't care if you're some "third party" or whatever, just stop getting in our way!"
"Now, now, Joon. We don't want to draw attention to ourselves."
Both the detectives and the phantom thieves had heard rumors of the so-called third party―an amanojaku showoff who appears at the last possible moment to steal all the glory. Judging from Joon's reaction, the phantom thieves didn't think too highly of her. And yet, when Hecatia glanced up at Seija, a hint of a smile tugged at her lips.
"Seriously, I'm all out of ideas. If only we could get past these guards, that would be really cooool."
At the word "cool," Seija's ears perked up.
"Heh, I can do it easy!"
Seija wasn't going to miss out on a chance to show off. That's what she lived for.
Seija pulled out a tiny remote control with a big red button. When she pressed it, white smoke seeped out of the building's windows, and all the guards started running around in a panic.
"Pretty cool, huh?! Now I can pass by the guards without hurting them!"
Hecatia thought it was a bit excessive, but it definitely got the job done.
"Wow, that's amazing, Seija! You're full of surprises!"
"You bet I am! Praise me more!"
Discerning the meaning behind Hecatia's grin, Joon followed up.
"Thanks a ton, Seija! Well, we've got thieving to do! See you around!"
Leaving Seija to gloat, the two thieves slipped past her into the building.
"Hahaha! ...Hm? Wait, did I just get tricked into using my trap? Hey! Get back here!"
Turns out Seija's epic entrance wasn't quite as cool as she had hoped.
